SMU Libraries plays a pivotal role in advancing AI information literacy within the larger need for digital literacy skills in the SMU community. The Carpentries is a global community teaching data science and computational skills to librarians, researchers in academia, industry and government. The various initiatives include Library Carpentry, Data Carpentry and Software Carpentry. Organisations interested in upskilling their staff may conduct Carpentries workshops based on openly available lesson materials and customise the content according to their needs and audiences.

The author collaborated withthe School of Information Systems (SIS) to design a hands-on IL course todevelop research skills in first-year students taking the IS101 (InformationSystems Management) course.
