This thesis was carried out in the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement in Northern Uganda to test a new model to improve access to clean energy technologies in the refugee settlement. The settlement hosts more than seventy-five thousand refugees, including the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Bududa landslides in Eastern Uganda. The literature review shows the challenges faced in the humanitarian sector. The challenge is met in providing lighting and improved cooking technologies to all refugees in settlements and camps globally. Learning By Playing: A Curriculum Utilizing Improvisational Theater To Develop Prosocial Behavior Skills And Self-Efficacy In Young Adolescents, Lynn Lovett Barr

Prosocial behavior requires competency in social-emotional skills including interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation. During the developmental stage of early adolescence, youth are learning these skills and are more likely to engage in prosocial behavior if they feel efficacious in them. However, most social-emotional learning programs focus on conceptual knowledge in these areas without providing sufficient opportunities for practice, which does not allow students to develop sufficient procedural knowledge and self-efficacy. Improvisational theater offers a solution to this problem; used in concert with social-emotional lessons, it provides practice scenarios and procedural learning opportunities. COVID-19 impacted the entire world. One specific population of individuals who suffered from implications of the novel coronavirus was athletes. As the virus spread around the globe and quarantine regulations were being established, athletes across various competition levels experienced cancellations of their sport seasons. This event led many athletes to lose their athletic identity; the degree to which one identifies with the athletic role. Individuals who develop a stronger, more exclusive athletic identity are likely to experience more difficulties when sport related transitions like injury or retirement occur. Western patriarchy sustains male-dominance and perpetuates gender inequity. While there have been great achievements toward gender equity, women are burdened to navigate a society that upholds male success. Equality offers individuals the same opportunities, but often falls short in delivering equal outcomes because of historic and systemic male privileges conserved by patriarchy. Equity, on the other hand, ensures that fair opportunities effect equal outcomes to rectify systemic injustices. Emergencies arise unexpectedly and when they occur, it is the job of our governments to respond to them. They often do so by using emergency powers, designed to return the nation back to its original state. There is a crisis in healthcare that is often not discussed: men’s health. Men die younger, are more burdened by illness during life, fall ill at a younger age, and have more chronic illnesses than women. Contradictory concepts of health, struggles with help-seeking, and worse healthcare outcomes and life expectancies for men can be traced back to attempts to conform to hegemonic masculine ideals or social norms.
