In this write-up, I discuss the process and results of creating an online tutoring service for college trigonometry students. The online tutoring service I created included emails, discussion board, and weekly live tutoring sessions. I discuss advantages, disadvantages, improvements, and implications of online tutoring tools and services for the high school classroom.

In the United States, teenage pregnancy rates have taken the first upswing since 1991. It has more teenage pregnancies per capita than any other country in the western industrialized world. Television shows, music and culture permeate teenagers’ lives, influencing sexual behaviors and attitudes. Those whose relatives have children in their teens are at an even higher risk. There are programs throughout the region desperately working to bring awareness to teenagers about the risks and consequences of having sex too early, but teens still get pregnant. With the advancements of today’s society and a global economy, many workers and students are traveling abroad for work and education. Staying in another country can be very stressful. Some individuals may experience more stress than others. This study investigated a Chinese student sample in the United States to determine which individuals would experience a better adjustment in the United States. A questionnaire with items measuring extraversion, neuroticism, and openness to experience, identification with all humanity, demographic information, cultural relocation variables, (e.g., language skills, length of stay) and cultural adjustment was administered to Chinese students at Western Kentucky University. This Capstone Experience/Thesis is an in-depth reporting project on Hispanic immigration in Bowling Green, Kentucky. With a journalistic approach, this project identifies key issues in the immigrant community, including issues concerning illegal immigrants. The purpose of this project is to identify and document the stories of these immigrants. Because some sources interviewed were illegal, anonymity was upheld throughout the project. This CE/T also analyzes the use of anonymous sources in journalism. Specifically, this project analyzes the balance of the field of journalism’s requirement to inform its public and the requirement to not harm any source.

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), adopted by the United Nations in 1979, has now been ratified by 185 countries, consisting of more than ninety percent of all UN members. The United States, however, has never ratified the Convention. The history of the Convention provides evidence of global support for women’s rights. While there are complex reasons behind the United States’ failure to ratify CEDAW, the United States’ commitment to unilateralism, an attitude of “American exceptionalism” and the long-term inequality and discrimination against women in the U.S. all contribute to the stifling of …

This study examines how Social-Networking sites were used in the 2008 presidential election with emphasis on Facebook and how this use impacted the youth vote. The 2008 election was the first in the history of elections to utilize such campaign tactics. Findings indicated that social-networking sites more than likely did have an impact on the election. Although this impact was not a direct impact, through political socialization, campaigning through Facebook did help increase awareness of election related information.
