A Method For Investigating Tv Effect On Passivity-Activity Of Crees, Gary Granzberg

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

With the recent rise to prominence of materialistic emphasis in anthropology, there has been a corresponding development of new methodology. An example is presented here of how new methodology can be applied to the study of a Cree Indian community in Canada. This study examined the effect of television on the passivity-activity dimension in development of children.

Recreation-Based Lodging Business In A Minnesota Resort Area, Gary C. Meyer Jan 1977

Recreation-Based Lodging Business In A Minnesota Resort Area, Gary C. Meyer

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

Personal interviews with owners or managers of privately-owned outdoor recreation-based lodging enterprises in Hubbard County, Minnesota, were used to analyze this industry. Most enterprises are small, operated on a seasonal and part-time basis, and owned by individuals or families who formerly resided in other areas. It is suggested that non-economic goals are commonly the most important contributors to the decision to enter this segment of the lodging industry.

Some Determinants Of Productivity, Allen Blitstein Jan 1977

Some Determinants Of Productivity, Allen Blitstein

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

This study tests the effects of several variables on value productivity in manufacturing. Changes in human capital seem to have a greater impact on production worker output than do changes in physical capital. Industries which exhibit a high degree of employment instability tend to have tower value productivity than do industries with relatively stable employment. This finding supports the "learning curve'; hypothesis.

Capacity utilization was found to be inversely associated with worker output. The degree of unionism in an industry, number of hours worked, presence of female workers, and industry wholesale price levels were found to be insignificant factors in …

On Manility And Serality, Hans W. Wendt Jan 1977

On Manility And Serality, Hans W. Wendt

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

The notion that different people consistently function best at different and specific times of day is subjected to further analysis and discussion of methodological difficulties. When factor analytic procedures are applied to behavior inventories which supposedly capture stable diurnal characteristics, more than one dimension of "serality-manility" emerges. Factor scores thus derived were correlated with the computed acrophases of several circadian functions. Certain results suggest sex differences in the underlying structure, besides the magnitude, of these relationships. Also, hormonal contraception may alter behavioral serality-manility.

Economic Impact Of An Air Base On The Duluth-Superior Region, Wayne A. Jesswein, Richard W. Lichty

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

The economic impact of the Duluth Air Base on the Duluth-Superior Growth Center was measured using an input-output table . A review of the impact results shows significant effects of the base on the area's industrial structure. A review of the results also shows the importance of the indirect effects in assessing the total impact on the region.
