Thecrimeof genocide,or the"crimeofallcrimes", isoftenanalysed throughthelensof law. However, social scientists have argued that legal explanations and descriptions of the crime of genocidearetoolimited inanalysis. Criminology - asasociological discipline dedicated tostudying variouscrimesand toseeking explanations behind therootsof thesecrimes - can providesubstantial guidance which could be employed to deconstruct, analyse and understand the crime of genocide. This article thus synthesizes criminological theories that have been employed to study the crime of genocide, toshow how using thelensofcriminology instead of law could improveourunderstanding about thecrimeof genocide.
