The responses of multiple DG units and voltage regulating devices such as tap changers and capacitor banks for correcting the voltage may lead to operational conflicts and oscillatory transients, where distribution systems are subjected to network reconfiguration and changes in availability of the DG units. Therefore, coordinated voltage control is required to minimize control interactions while accounting for the impact of structural changes associated with the network. This paper presents a simple methodology to improve the low voltage ride-through (LVRT) capability of Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) based wind turbines in order to ride through higher voltage sags and durations. The proposed method is based on selection of an appropriate value for DC side super capacitor (SC) in such a way that it could help wind turbine for LVRT without any need to crowbar protection. The operation of SC based wind turbine in normal and fault conditions is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Recently published International Electrotechnical Committee (IEC) technical reports IEC 61000-3-13 provides detailed methodologies for managing voltage unbalance (VU) in electric power systems. A key aspect in the VU emission allocation process is the estimation of VU propagation in different parts of the network. Although the VU propagation from upstream networks to downstream networks is adequately addressed, the attenuation of VU when propagating from downstream to upstream networks at the same voltage level has not been properly taken into account in the aforementioned methodologies. The Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM a.k.a. SVG) is widely used to regulate dynamic reactive power and to solve dynamic voltage stability problems. Modeling shows that a cascaded STATCOM, which is composed of several cascaded H-bridges, not only has strong coupling characteristics when an LCL filter is added but it is also a non-linear, multivariable system. This paper presents a new method for classification and characterization of voltage dips and swells in electricity networks. The proposed method exploits unique signatures and parameters of three phase voltage signals extracted from the polarization ellipse in three-dimensional (3D) co-ordinates. Five ellipse parameters, which include azimuthal angle, elevation, tilt, semi-minor axis and semi-major axis, are used to classify and characterize voltage dips and swells. The traditional neutral voltage problem in low-voltage (LV) four-wire multigrounded distribution networks can be aggravated due to an unbalanced allocation of one-phase photovoltaic (PV) units. Inherent limitations restrict the performance of the traditional strategies to mitigate the combined effect of load and PV unbalance. To overcome the shortcoming of traditional approaches, a new dynamic mitigation approach using community energy storage (CES) is proposed in this paper. Lamp flicker levels which arise as a result of voltage fluctuations can exceed limits set by appropriate standards. New lamp types such as compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) are less sensitive to voltage fluctuations as their flicker characteristics are considerably different compared to those of the traditional incandescent lamp. Distributors need to allocate a maximum allowed level of harmonic current to medium-voltage customers to keep voltage distortion acceptable. Tlie paper describes a new approach, based on the concept of voltage droop, requiring much less calculation and data than required by the present approach based on an IEC technical report. The discrepancy between the new method and the present is studied by comparing some carefully selected scenarios. This paper proposes a new control strategy and a novel modulation technique for a grid-connected photo-voltaic (PV) system using a single-phase five-level flying capacitor (FC) based active-neutral-point-clamped (ANPC) converter. The proposed modulator can control the FC voltage to follow the requested reference value and simultaneously generate the required ac output voltage regardless of the values of the dc capacitor voltages of the converter. By implementing this method, smaller values of dc-link and flying capacitors can be used even in applications that could experience ripple or transient in the capacitors voltage. In future low voltage grids, with multiple inverter interfaced sources connected, voltage regulation may become a necessary task. The potential exists for inverter interfaced sources to be deployed to regulate the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC) of each inverter interfaced sources. Induction motors are widely applied in industry. Their performance strongly depends on relative power supply quality, such as voltage sags, harmonics, voltage unbalance and voltage fluctuations. This paper investigates the impact of voltage fluctuations on induction motor performance, particularly the stator and rotor current variation characteristics. An induction motor steady state analysis method is proposed when the motor is subjected to regular voltage fluctuations. The dynamic model of an induction motor is used in order to represent the induction motor instantaneous response. Initial analysis of voltage quality information collected from smart meters at premise level is presented. The information reveals instances of over and under voltage at some consumer premises. This revelation means supply authorities now have an obligation to rectify their supply voltages in accordance with codes and regulations.
