A Novel Method Of Embedding Additional Information Into Tensor Diffusion Filtering As An Application For Multi-Modal Reconstruction In Et, D Kazantsev, Sebastien Ourselin, Brian F. Hutton, W. R B. Lionheart, Simon Arridge

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The fast development of hybrid imaging modalities in tomography, such as SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography)/CT (computed tomography), PET (positron emission tomography)/MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and PET/CT, have increased an interest for reconstruction algorithms which are able to utilize a functional and anatomical information at the same time. In this paper a new method proposed for iterative reconstruction with anatomical prior in emission tomography (ET). The introduced regularization term is a modified anisotropic tensor diffusion filter which has shape-adapted smoothing properties. The filter accommodates available anatomical information which results in enhanced position and image dependent spatial resolution of emission …

Rapid Synthesis Of Free-Standing Moo3/Graphene Films By The Microwave Hydrothermal Method As Cathode For Bendable Lithium Batteries, Lukman Noerochim, Jia-Zhao Wang, David Wexler, Zhong Chao, Hua-Kun Liu

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Highly flexible, binder-free, MoO3 nanobelt/graphene film electrode is prepared by a two-step microwave hydrothermal method. Graphene is first prepared by an ultra-fast microwave hydrothermal method and then mixed with MoO3 solution to synthesize the MoO3 nanobelt/graphene composite, which exhibits the combination of stacked graphene sheets and uniform MoO3 nanobelts with widths of 200-500 nm and lengths of 5-10 μm. The charge-discharge measurements show that the as-synthesized MoO3/graphene hybrid materials demonstrate excellent rate capability, large capacity, and good cycling stability compared to the pure MoO3 film. An initial discharge capacity of 291 mAh g-1 can be obtained at 100 mA g-1, …

Routing of rivers which flow through the important areas is from the important river engineering measures. In this research, flood routing in the Maroon River has been studied bases on hydrometric stations between Behbahan and Chamnezam. Todays, numerical computer methods are developed for the Cent and Nante equations. The HEC-RAS software and Muskingum and Muskingum - corners methods are used for this work. HEC-RAS model with solving of dynamic equations motion simulates unsteady flow in the form of onedimensional flow in open channels. After calibration and testing, the results of these methods were compared. So, the HEC-RAS model results considerably better …

A Novel Cost Effective Method For Vehicle Tire-Road Friction Coefficient Estimation, Boyuan Li, Haiping Du, Weihua Li Jan 2013

A Novel Cost Effective Method For Vehicle Tire-Road Friction Coefficient Estimation, Boyuan Li, Haiping Du, Weihua Li

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The tire-road friction coefficient is critical to vehicle longitudinal, lateral and roll dynamics and control because tire is the only contact part between the vehicle body and the road. However, direct measurement of tire-road friction coefficient is impossible in practice. This paper presents a novel cost effective method for vehicle tire-road friction coefficient estimation. This method only needs the measurements of the wheel angular velocity, the traction/brake torque and the longitudinal acceleration, which are all available from the commonly installed sensors in ordinary passenger vehicles, and can be used to estimate the individual tire-road friction coefficient. There are three steps …

A Compressed Sensing Method For Complex-Valued Signals With Application To Through-The-Wall Radar Imaging, Fok Hing Chi Tivive, Abdesselam Bouzerdoum

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper, we present a compressed sensing method for complex-valued signals based on multiple measurement vector compressed sensing model. The proposed method constrains the real and imaginary parts of the recovered signal to have the same sparsity profile. It is applied to a compressed sensing through-the-wall radar imaging problem. Experiments based on synthetic data shows that the proposed method achieves lower reconstruction error than the existing CS method.

Simplified Boundary Element Method For Kinematic Response Of Single Piles In Two-Layer Soil, Fayun Liang, Haibing Chen, Wei Dong Guo Jan 2013

Simplified Boundary Element Method For Kinematic Response Of Single Piles In Two-Layer Soil, Fayun Liang, Haibing Chen, Wei Dong Guo

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A simple approach is formulated to predict the elastic, kinematic pile bending during harmonic or transient excitation for a circular pile (rather than a simplified thin strip). The kinematic response of a pile embedded in two-layer soil is resolved in the frequency domain caused by the upward propagation of shear waves from the underlying bedrock. The simplified approach is generally valid to nonhomogeneous soil profiles, in light of the good comparison with the dynamic FE method and BDWF solution. It employs the soil-displacement-influence coefficients Is to consider the pile-soil interaction (resembling the spring constant kx in the BDWF) and provides …

Espi Filtering Method Based On Anisotropic Coherence Diffusion And Perona-Malik Diffusion, Zhitao Xiao, Zhenbei Xu, Fang Zhang, Lei Geng, Jun Wu, Quan Yuan, Jiangtao Xi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Noise reduction is one of the most important concerns in electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI). According to partial differential equation (PDE) filtering theory, we present an anisotropic PDE noise- reduction model based on fringe structure information for interferometric fringe patterns. This model is based on coherence diffusion and Perona-Malik (P-M) diffusion. The former can protect the structure information of fringe pattern, while the latter can effectively filter off the noise inside the fringes. The proposed model generated by the two diffusion methods helps to obtain good effects of denoising and fidelity. ESPI fringes and the phase pattern are tested. Experimental …

Consistency Proof Of Two Denoising Methods And The Parameter Selection Of Pde Filtering Method For Espi, Zhitao Xiao, Quan Yuan, Fang Zhang, Jun Wu, Lei Geng, Zhenbei Xu, Jiangtao Xi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) is a nondestructive, whole-field optical measurement technique. The removal of speckle noise is fundamental to extract measurement information accurately. In this letter, two filtering methods based on the oriented feature of ESPI fringes, i.e., the second-order oriented partial differential equation (SOOPDE) and oriented, regularized quadratic-cost function filtering methods, are first proven to be consistent. An important question in solving partial differential equation, i.e., how to select suitable parameters in an adaptive manner, is then discussed. The computer-simulated and experimentally obtained ESPI fringe patterns and phase map are processed by the SOOPDE filtering model with adaptive …

Simplified Analytical Method For Seismic Response Of Composite Caisson-Piles Foundations, Rui Zhong, Maosong Huang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Seismic response of a new type of foundation, the composite caisson-piles foundation,is studied through a simplified analytical method. The focus is the contribution of the piles beneath the caisson in increasing the earthquake resistance of the foundation-superstructure system. Firstly, considering the interaction between the soil and foundation with dynamic Winkler model, the equation of kinematic response of the composite foundation under S-wave is derived. Secondly,a simplified model for the seismic response of the foundation-column-lumped mass system in frequency domain is built;and with Fourier transformation this method is applied to transient seismic problems. Thirdly, with an example of soil-foundation-superstructure seismic behavior, this proposed method is validated …

An Improved Svd-Based Wall Clutter Mitigation Method For Through-The-Wall Radar Imaging, Fok Hing Chi Tivive, Abdesselam Bouzerdoum

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper presents an improved SVD-based method for wall clutter mitigation in through-the-wall radar imaging. The dominant wall singular components are identified from the singular value spectrum. A subspace projection method is then applied to remove the strong wall clutter, residing in the dominant singular components, and separate the target signal from noise. The remaining wall clutter residual, which is mixed with the target signal, is suppressed by segmenting the range profile of the signal residing in the subspace orthogonal to the wall and noise subspaces. A Gaussian mixture is used to model the range profile, and the optimum segmentation …
