Statistical Bias And Variance For The Regularized Inverse Problem: Application To Space-Based Atmospheric Co2 Retrievals, Noel A. Cressie, R Wang, Michael M. Smyth, Charles E. Miller

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Remote sensing of the atmosphere is typically achieved through measurements that are high-resolution radiance spectra. In this article, our goal is to characterize the first-moment and second-moment properties of the errors obtained when solving the regularized inverse problem associated with space-based atmospheric CO2 retrievals, specifically for the dry air mole fraction of CO2 in a column of the atmosphere. The problem of estimating (or retrieving) state variables is usually ill posed, leading to a solution based on regularization that is often called Optimal Estimation (OE). The difference between the estimated state and the true state is defined to be the …

Quantum Private Set Intersection Cardinality And Its Application To Anonymous Authentication, Runhua Shi, Yi Mu, Hong Zhong, Shun Zhang, Jie Cui Jan 2016

Quantum Private Set Intersection Cardinality And Its Application To Anonymous Authentication, Runhua Shi, Yi Mu, Hong Zhong, Shun Zhang, Jie Cui

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

In this paper, we proposed an unconditionally secure quantum Private Set Intersection Cardinality (PSI-CA) protocol. Compared with classical PSI-CA protocols, the proposed protocol can dramatically reduce the communication complexity, because it only requires O(1) communication cost, which is fully independent of the size of the sets. Furthermore, based on the proposed quantum PSI-CA protocol, we constructed a novel anonymous authentication scheme. This scheme can not only achieve two basic secure goals: secure authentication and anonymity, but can also dynamically update the authorized clients. When revoking any authorized client or adding a new client, it only needs to simply compute several …

Edit Distance Based Encryption And Its Application, Phuong Viet Xuan Tran, Guomin Yang, Willy Susilo, Kaitai Liang Jan 2016

Edit Distance Based Encryption And Its Application, Phuong Viet Xuan Tran, Guomin Yang, Willy Susilo, Kaitai Liang

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Edit distance, also known as Levenshtein distance, is a very useful tool to measure the similarity between two strings. It has been widely used in many applications such as natural language processing and bioinformatics. In this paper, we introduce a new type of fuzzy public key encryption called Edit Distance-based Encryption (EDE). In EDE, the encryptor can specify an alphabet string and a threshold when encrypting a message, and a decryptor can obtain a decryption key generated from another alphabet string, and the decryption will be successful if and only if the edit distance between the two strings is within …

A Conceptual Model For The Application Of Business Analytics In The Horizontal Strategic Alliance, John Janosko, Tingru Cui, S K. Lau Jan 2016

A Conceptual Model For The Application Of Business Analytics In The Horizontal Strategic Alliance, John Janosko, Tingru Cui, S K. Lau

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The formation of strategic alliances amongst organisations has grown in recent years as globalisation has opened new markets for firms to pursue. It is of ever-increasing importance that organisations have a thorough understanding of the performance of their alliance to achieve competitive advantage. However, much research on strategic alliance has focused on examining the organisations within the alliance rather than focusing on the alliance itself. Using the new discipline of business analytics, this paper proposes a hierarchical model blending the functional roles of business analytics with data standardisation and context mediation frameworks to allow business analytics to be applied to …

Application Of Shock Mats In Rail Track Foundation Subjected To Dynamic Loads, Sinniah Navaratnarajah, Buddhima Indraratna, Sanjay Nimbalkar Jan 2016

Application Of Shock Mats In Rail Track Foundation Subjected To Dynamic Loads, Sinniah Navaratnarajah, Buddhima Indraratna, Sanjay Nimbalkar

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Rail track substructure (ballast, subballast and subgrade) is the most essential component of the railway system in view of track stability. The ballast is the largest component of the track substructure and it is the key load-bearing stratum packed with rock aggregates underneath and around the sleepers, thereby providing structural support against dynamic stresses caused by moving trains. However under large dynamic stresses exerted by heavy haul and high speed trains, the degradation of track substructure including ballast becomes significant. This in turn affects the track stability and creates frequent maintenance, thus increasing the life cycle cost of the rail …

A High Availability Application Service Platform For Nuclear Power Enterprises, Zhe Sun, He Jin, Jianming Yong, Salim Al Isma'ili, Changying Li, Jun Shen

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper presents a High Availability Application Service Platform (HAASP) and analyses its high availability. The architecture of this platform contains application server platform and high availability architecture. Application server platform consists of three major components, application release platform, which is implemented with WebLogic and WebSphere cluster, application and database platforms, which are built with Oracle RAC, and IBM Domino cluster. High availability architecture is constructed by virtual machines, distributed switches and storage pools. It employs virtualization technology to integrate physical servers and storages, where physical servers are responsible for the creation of virtual server cluster, distributed switches, storage pool …
