2008 Field Excavation Final Report Acosta-Durst-Taylor House, Leslie G. Cecil

The Acosta-Durst-Taylor site (now known as the Durst-Taylor House) is known as one of the earliest occupations in Nacogdoches, TX. The property fronts North Street and is just to the north of Hospital Street (Figure 1). Much of the history of this plot of land and accompanying house, out structures, and other buildings associated with this land is described thoroughly in the site’s National Register of Historic Places nomination form (United States Department of the Interior 2003). What follows is a brief synopsis of the changing landscape of site 41NA182.

Violence in schools continues reflecting violence within society. There is a growing need for violence prevention programs within the schools that provide students with the skills needed to cope with interpersonal and relationship is-sues effectively. This study was conducted at a middle school and there were 345 middle school students (6th to 8th grade) who participated in the study. The students participated in a violence prevention program. In this study, the researchers used a pre-test/post-test design and the results indicated that there were some changes in attitudes towards violence that occurred after the intervention.

The Impact Of Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Symptoms On Maternal Parenting Behaviors, Le'ann L. Solmonson, Tiffany Stewart

The purpose of this qualitative research project is to examine the impact of maternal ADHD symptoms on managing the responsibilities related to parent-ing. The primary researcher conducted three interviews with mothers who exhibit ADHD symptoms in order to gain insight into their perceived difficulties related to the disorder. Analysis of the data indicates these mothers have difficulty completing tasks, are disorganized, and are easily overwhelmed with the responsibilities of parenting resulting in difficulty managing their own behavior and being consistent in disciplining their children. Evaluating Tree Height Using Pictometry® Hyperspatial Imagery, Daniel Unger, David Kulhavy, Matthew A. Wade

This study evaluated the use of Pictometry® hyperspatial 4-inch (10.2 centimeters) multispectral imagery to estimate height of baldcypress trees on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU), Nacogdoches, Texas. Actual tree heights of 60 baldcypress trees measured with a telescopic height pole were compared to Pictometry® estimated tree height. Linear correlation coefficients (r) and coefficient of determinations (R2) between actual tree height and Pictometry® estimated tree height for all 60 tress, and the shortest 30 and tallest 30 trees, were calculated.
