La Casita Center: An Accompaniment Based Approach To Social Justice And Social Service., Ben Harlan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

La Casita Center is a Louisville based nonprofit organization that accompanies Latinx immigrants in the Louisville Metro area. and that is led and staffed by Latina immigrants. In this thesis, I investigate how employees of this Latinx-immigrant led nonprofit organization, navigate challenges to both administer service and build community using the model of accompaniment. Organizations like La Casita are critically important for Latinx newcomer communities in the United States and as neoliberal and nativist-inspired policiescontinue to oppress and marginalize, La Casita provides a model for what it means to center inclusion, belonging, community, and solidarity. Comparative Spending Of Medicaid Dollars On Child Participants Of Kentucky’S Sobriety Treatment And Recovery Teams Program Versus A Matched Comparison Group., Matthew Thomas Walton

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Child protective services agencies have long observed the complicating role that parental substance use and addiction plays in cases of child maltreatment. Families who struggle with these problems present unique challenges for child welfare professionals. These families are typically more difficult to engage, more likely to have children removed from the home, and have poorer outcomes when compared to other families. These poorer outcomes often include health problems. Addiction has well-known effects on health, and the specific manifestations of these problems for parents have been documented for years in child protection casework. However, what has been less investigated are the …

The ‘Just City’ Or Just A City? : Evaluating Social Justice And Equity In Planning Education., Wes Grooms Aug 2018

The ‘Just City’ Or Just A City? : Evaluating Social Justice And Equity In Planning Education., Wes Grooms

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Contemporary evaluations of accredited planning education performance have eschewed the principles and methodologies of formal program evaluation and performance management. This dissertation tests hypotheses that this contributes to the lack of social equity and justice commitment, content, and inquiry on the part of accredited graduate planning degree programs, their clients, and administrators. The organizations, resources, and processes involved in the purveyance of accredited graduate planning education were conceptualized as a singular, evaluable program and illustrated in a series of program logic models. These models revealed sources of the inattentiveness to normative issues that past evaluations have evidenced, and informed assertions …

Exchange Patterns And Relations In Collaborative Governance., Charles Wharton Kaye-Essien May 2016

Exchange Patterns And Relations In Collaborative Governance., Charles Wharton Kaye-Essien

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Collaborative governance has received considerable attention in recent years. From environmental resource management to public safety, collaborative governance continues to play a vital role in regional problem solving. In spite of this increasing popularity previous attempts to model the political, economic, and demographic determinants of collaboration have in most cases produced inconsistent results, thereby undermining the ability to generalize from such findings. Additionally, our understanding of the relational patterns that emanate from collaborative agreements remains fairly rudimentary. The main objective of this research is to address some of the gaps in the literature and improve our understanding of collaborative governance …

Interest in the field of Mental Hygiene and psychiatry has been stimulated by tensions of World War II. As in other communities there are mental hygiene and psychiatric facilities in Louisville. A History Of The Financing Of The Private Family Agency, Louisville, Kentucky., Verna Schwab Will Jun 1944

A History Of The Financing Of The Private Family Agency, Louisville, Kentucky., Verna Schwab Will

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Finances play an important part in the operation of any business or organization. Quite often, it is a part that is little understood or studied except by the specialists in the financial field. A large proportion of the general public pays little more than a passing glance at the published financial papers of an organization. Particularly is this true of the welfare or social service organizations. Yet such agencies are usually the ones which come in for a greater share of criticism in connection with the expenditure of money. The purpose of this study, however, is not to attempt to …

This study of thirty eight unmarried mothers known to the Children's Agency of Louisville, Kentucky is an attempt to find out what happens to these girls after the agency has terminated its contact with them. A History Of The Council Of Social Agencies Of Louisville, Kentucky., Mary Trueheart Williamson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Community social planning has recently received the spotlight of attention under the impacts of war and its related demands for a united nation and community. But to those who have had a more intimate contact with the field of social work this is not a new development. For more than twenty years there has been in urban areas a steady growth of organizations known as councils of social agencies, welfare councils, or community councils whose job it has been to coordinate and plan the social welfare programs for the communities of which they are a part. A Study Of Twenty-Eight Working Mothers And Their Problems., Marianna E. Lawson May 1943

A Study Of Twenty-Eight Working Mothers And Their Problems., Marianna E. Lawson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

What are the problems of working mothers was the question that was uppermost in our minds when we began our study of twenty-eight working mothers and their families. We felt that through examining data regarding ages, occupation, education, marital status, number of dependents, et cetera that we would be able to ascertain at once some of the difficulties these mothers were facing. We wanted to know how much of the financial burden the mother carried and whether she was showing any signs of strain because of her double duties of wage earner and housekeeper. What help did she have from …
