The increased demand for more school counselors since World War II raised many questions concerning their preparation and training. One of the most controversial topics has been that of requiring teaching experience as a prerequisite for counselor certification. We find ourselves in a milieu of controversy in which some advocates are proposing that teaching experience can handicap the counselor in his effectiveness while others are saying that teaching experience is a vital prerequisite for counselor effectiveness.

During the 1965-66 school year a study was made of 250 ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students attending the West Seminary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brigham City. The object was to determine the extent to which the Latter-day Saint families in this area were holding the Family Horne Evening Program and what variables influenced their participation.

Sixty percent of those interviewed said they participated in the Family Horne Evening Program when it was first introduced to the Church membership. Eight months later participation had dropped to 40 percent. It was found that patterns …

The findings of this study indicated, contrary to expectations, that irrigation farmers who expressed needs for water did not engage in certain types of goal-oriented behavior designed to resolve those needs any more so than did those who did not express these needs. There were four measures of goal-orientation which included: Attendance at meetings about the Bear River Project, actively seeking information about said Project and positive attitude toward development of the Bear River.

Preferences of the size of family and the relationship between the size of family and a number of socio-economic and demographic variables were studied among high school senior girls in three northern Utah counties by a special survey.

The questionnaire specifically designed for the study was administered between November 1967 and February 1968 in all high schools in Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties with the exception of Logan High School in Logan and Box Elder High School in Brigham City.

Utah State University began to present radio programs on a regular basis over KSL Radio in Salt Lake City in 1931. In 1952, its first television program was televised over KSL-TV. Today the University is broadcasting programs over the majority of Utah's radio and television stations.

This thesis covers the development of broadcasting from USU in three major areas: (1) radio and television programs presented over Utah broadcasting outlets, (2) the construction of radio and television stations on the campus, and (3) instruction in broadcasting. The Metropolitan Readiness Test, 1964 edition, Form A, was administered to forty children who were enrolled in kindergarten classes in Logan, Utah, during the school year 1967-1968. Twenty of these children (nursery attenders) had attended the Utah State University Child Development Laboratory for at least two, but not more than three quarters with at least half of this nursery experience being during the year preceding kindergarten. The other 20 children (non-attenders) had not experienced any type of pre-school or day care program prior to kindergarten. The purpose was to determine how husbands and wives who had been separated because of the war in Vietnam perceived each other during separation. Martial roles were used as the vehicle to convey perception.

A random sample of Jl couples was selected from among the married officers and enlisted men of Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 225 which was based at DaNang, South Vietnam. In 1942, the Navy Department constructed a Naval Supply Depot at Clearfield, Utah. The northern part of Davis County was still in the grips of the Depression of the 1930's. Therefore, the Public Housing Administration constructed a temporary housing unit of cinderblocks under the authorization of the Lehman Act of 1940 for those who came to the Clearfield area for employment. It was named Anchorage. In 1955, the Federal Government sold Anchorage to Clearfield City for $20,451.70.

A sample of 20 middle-class mothers with children enrolled in the Child Development Laboratory school and 18 lower-class mothers with children enrolled in the Head Start program in the Ogden City School District was chosen by placing the children's names in an age-ranked order. Two mothers who met the qualifications of being lower- class, but not having children enrolled in Head Start, were also included in this study. Also studied were the differences among children within the two classes in their ability to label concrete objects and actions compared with pictures of the same things or actions.

In Experiment I, contingency management was employed with five non-institutionalized trainable retardates (mean MA=4.l, CA=9.9, and language age=2.6) in a classroom situation. Empirically determined high probability behaviors were displayed as colored cartoon figures in a reinforcement menu. Tasks from the Peabody Language Development Kit defined the behavior strengthened during 15 one-hour sessions. A quantity of low probability task behavior had to occur in order for subjects to emit 4 minutes of high probability reinforcing activity. This study attempted to determine if subjects that had been instructed in the principle of conservation, maintained conservation after termination of instructions. Using subjects from kindergarten to third grade that had received instructions by use of both concrete example and mental imagery methods. Those S's that received instructions were compared with S's that had received no instructions. A test of conservation was administered to a total of 96 S's approximately eight months after termination of instructions to determine if the scores received on a test of those students that had received instructions exceeded those S's that had not received instructions. …

An in-depth personality and intellectual evaluation of a group of hermaphroditic children residing in the state of Oklahoma was undertaken in this study. The following techniques were utilized in order to extensively study the impact of this anomaly on the families of these children: psychological tests, parental interviews by a social worker, and diagnostic play interviews conducted by the investigator. Seven rats were trained on Fixed Ratio 20 and two on Fixed Ratio 12 Escape Schedules until a stable baseline was established. Five of the subjects were administered gold thioglucose, three received gold thiomalate, and one was injected with gold, gold thioglucose, and gold thiomalate, allowing for an intrasubject comparison. Colloidal gold appeared to suppress response rate for one or two sessions, while gold thioglucose and gold thiomalate suppressed normal response rates from several to a number of sessions. The subjects of the study were all of the seventh grade gym students at Logan Junior High School who were rated by their teachers as being in the upper or lower one-fourth of their class in respect to their abilities in sport skills. The grade-point average (GPA) of 4 groups of college sophomores, representing high and low scores on the CPI Ac and Ai scales, was analyzed to test the hypothesis that conforming and independent achievement motivation (as measured by the CPI) is related to scholastic achievement reflective of conforming or independent behavior. Specific hypotheses regarding differential achievement as a function of Ac and Ai scores were tested and, in general, supported. The study focused upon three aspects of child-initiated contact comfort situations; how ofter the contact was sought, with whom or why did the child seek comfort, and what incident seemed to stimulate the child's action. Data was collected from two Utah State University Nursery School Laboratories

It was found that children respond as children in that similarity is greater than differences in utilization of contact comfort.

The purpose of the study was to compare the anticipations of the domestic marital role of single American and Chinese college students. The respondents consisted of 158 Utah State University students, 88 male and 70 female; and 135 Tunghai University students, 58 male and 77 female.

This study investigated the relationship between the Bender-Gestalt, Draw-a-Man, and the Wexler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence. Twenty-two children enrolled in the Logan, Utah Head-Start Program comprised the sample. Product-moment correlations indicated a significant relationship between these instruments.

The following tentative conclusions were drawn:

1. The Wexler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence bears a relationship to the Draw-a-Man and Bender-Gestalt tests similar to that between the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children and these instruments.

2. The Bender-Gestalt test, using the Koppitz scoring system, and the Draw-a-Man test can serve a similar checking function with the Wexler Preschool and Primary Scale …
