Local Solutions For County-Wide Amalgamation: Factors For Success And Failure, Linda Dean

This paper examines local solutions for amalgamation in Ontario by conducting a comparative case study of the County of Brant’s success at amalgamation and the County of Dufferin’s failed efforts towards amalgamation. The findings reveal that the factors that contribute to the outcome of local amalgamation decisions include the loss of identity associated with municipal mergers, the assimilation of individual communities, and the blurring of each community’s distinct characteristics into one homogenous mass.
