A Refined General Summation Law For Vu Emission Assessment In Radial Networks, Jayatunga Vitharanage Upuli Priyadarshani Jayatunga, Sarath Perera, Philip Ciufo, Ashish P. Agalgaonkar
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
Voltage unbalance (VU) management of power systems requires the development of well researched engineering practices to maintain acceptable VU levels while utilising the total VU absorption capacity of the power system. In this regard, IEC/TR 61000-3-13:2008 prescribes a VU emission allocation methodology based on a stochastic approach which uses a general summation law in order to aggregate numerous sources of unbalance to take into account their random variations. On the other hand, recent deterministic studies on VU emission assessment at the post-connection stage of unbalanced installations present a complex VU factor based approach to determine constituent components of the post-connection …

Research plays an integral role in law-making processes. But could academic research be applied more strategically to improve the processes and outcomes of law reform?
Velocity Distribution In Non-Uniform/Unsteady Flows And The Validity Of Log Law, Ishraq Alfadhli, Shu-Qing Yang, Muttucumaru Sivakumar
Velocity Distribution In Non-Uniform/Unsteady Flows And The Validity Of Log Law, Ishraq Alfadhli, Shu-Qing Yang, Muttucumaru Sivakumar
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
This study investigates the longitudinal velocity profiles in steady and unsteady non-uniform open channel flows by analyzing the data available in the literature. It was found that for steady/unsteady flow in the Log law is applicable only in the inner region where y/hg
Changing Media Understandings Of Gender Relations: Japan's Equal Employment Opportunity Law In 1985 And 1997, Kirsti Rawstron
Changing Media Understandings Of Gender Relations: Japan's Equal Employment Opportunity Law In 1985 And 1997, Kirsti Rawstron
Faculty of Arts - Papers (Archive)
This paper examines the portrayal of gender relations and issues in theJapanese media through a case study of discussions in mainstreamnewspapers surrounding the introduction in 1985 of the Equal EmploymentOpportunity Law (EEOL) in Japan. This law was introduced as part of Japan's ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of AllForms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). The debate surroundingthe changing EEOL is examined through articles from three mainstreamdaily national newspapers, notably the Asahi Shinbun, the Nihon KeizaiShinbun and the Yomiuri Shinbun. The articles reflect and reinforce thechanging cultural understanding of gender relations in Japan over thisperiod. The newspapers …
Evaluating Women’S Labour In 1990s Japan: The Changing Labour Standards Law, Kirsti Rawstron
Evaluating Women’S Labour In 1990s Japan: The Changing Labour Standards Law, Kirsti Rawstron
Faculty of Arts - Papers (Archive)
This article outlines the legislative changes regarding Japanese working women in the 1990s, specifically the changes to the Labour Standards Law. Th is Law was altered in 1997 (effective 1999) by the removal of a number of provisions known as the Women’s ‘Protection’ Provisions (josei hogo kitei). These gender-specifi c provisions restricted Japanese women from working particular jobs and hours, and limited overtime and holiday work. The role of these gender-specifi c provisions is examined through a collection of articles from four of Japan’s mainstream daily, widely-circulated newspapers: the Asahi Shinbun, the Mainichi Shinbun, the Nihon Keizai Shinbun, and the …
National Review Of Food Label Law & Policy - Australia, Heather Yeatman
National Review Of Food Label Law & Policy - Australia, Heather Yeatman
Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health - Papers: part A
Australia is the first country in the world to undertake a complete review of food label law and policy. This independent Review Panel is charged with examining current policies, standards and laws relevant to food labelling; the policy drivers impacting on demands for food labelling; and the policies and mechanisms that are needed to ensure that government plays its optimum role. Particular areas of nutrition focus include health claims and front of pack labelling. The genesis of the review was Australian governments' commitment to regulatory reform to create a seamless national economy, reduce the regulatory burden, and maintain or increase …
Minding The Gap(S) In Australian Spectrum Law, Benoit P. Freyens
Minding The Gap(S) In Australian Spectrum Law, Benoit P. Freyens
Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)
Achieving efficient spectrum management in the pursuit of the public interest was a key aspect of the legislative reforms enacted through the Radiocommunications Act 1992. However, the Act is unclear about the precise nature of the efficiencies to achieve and choices between different efficiency objectives are often dictated by the nature of the services, bands and market considered. This article argues that efficient spectrum policy can be furthered by crafting additional licensing regimes or expanding the possibilities of existing regimes. Despite successes in moving towards this goal, some legal rules still feed a pool of ‘licensing gaps’ that detract from …
Jubilee Law: Perspectives From A Theocracy, Lee C. Moerman
Jubilee Law: Perspectives From A Theocracy, Lee C. Moerman
Faculty of Commerce - Papers (Archive)
In the Biblical Old Testament there is a religious framework, Jubilee Law, which provides a mandated procedure for dealing with the indebted Hebrew and his! property. Emerging from Mosaic Law, this framework is based on alternative perspectives of property and ownership and societal economic relationships. As such, the Jubilee Law, can provide insights for accounting in a social and political context in the current global arena; especially the debt crisis of poor countries. Accounting discourse focuses on economic relations. A theological perspective, grounded in laws to protect the economically vulnerable, provides a critique from a moral accountability and has been …
Why Don't We Teach Software Engineers About The Law?, Anne Fuller, Peter Croll
Why Don't We Teach Software Engineers About The Law?, Anne Fuller, Peter Croll
Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A
Much work has been done in recent years developing software engineering curricula. SE research has traditionally focused on the needs of very large corporations undertaking equally mammoth and complex development projects, consequently, current curricula tend to focus on this model. Yet by far the majority of software development is undertaken by Small to Medium Enterprises. The rise of the internet as a platform for commercial applications has partly driven this move away from monolithic software development. Depending on the nature of the application itself many of these products can be described as 'critical' with the failure of such a product …
