Background: Alcohol media literacy programs seek to mitigate the potentially harmful effects of alcohol advertising on children's drinking intentions and behaviours through equipping them with skills to challenge media messages. In order for such programs to be effective, the teaching and learning experiences must be tailored to their specific cultural context. Media in the Spotlight is an alcohol media literacy program aimed at 9 to 12 year old Australian children. This study evaluates the process and implementation of the program, outlining the factors that facilitated and inhibited implementation. Indigenous Peoples who have been colonized typically face a greater burden of injury, disease, and social disruption associated with alcohol use (Kirmayer, Brass, & Tait, 2000). However, they often also encounter many barriers to accessing treatment for alcohol use disorders (Gray, Stearne, Wilson, & Doyle, 2010). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians (here described as Aboriginal Australians) experience 3-8 times the prevalence of alcohol-related illness, injury, and death than the general population (Calabria, Doran, Vos, Shakeshaft, & Hall, 2010). Error-laden data can negatively affect clinical and operational decision making, research findings and funding allocation. This study examined the number and types of data errors in an electronic medical record (EMR) system in a Drug and Alcohol service. Specifically, errors in service data were examined. 9,379 errors were identified from ten error reports generated between March 2015 and May 2016, three months after the implementation of the EMR system. These errors were grouped into four types: mismatched data fields (60.5%), duplicate medical record error (3.2%), date/time error (8.8%) and blank field error (27.4%).
