Developing An Optimum Maintenance Policy By Life Cycle Cost Analysis - A Case Study, Khaled O. El-Akruti, Tieling Zhang, Richard Dwight

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

This paper focuses on developing maintenance policies for critical assets to improve the production performance based on life cycle cost (LCC) analysis. A general approach is adopted for conducting the LCC analysis. The investigation is based on a case study to demonstrate how an optimum maintenance policy is determined. The relevant LCC structure in the case study is defined for the decision process which involves determination of the optimum life, repair limit and selection of materials, and trade-off between repair and replacement. The LCC analysis is based on statistical data modelling which facilitates decision-making on the optimal replacement of an …

Developing The Delirium Care Pathways, Victoria Traynor, Nicole Britten, Pippa Burns Jan 2016

Developing The Delirium Care Pathways, Victoria Traynor, Nicole Britten, Pippa Burns

Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health - Papers: part A

The aim of this study was to develop delirium care pathways (DCPs) useable and relevant for registered practitioners in all care settings: community; acute; and nursing homes. A qualitative approach was adopted to develop the pathways inductively. Focus groups and one-to-one interviews with registered practitioners (n = 45) working as managers, practitioners and clinical nurse consultants were undertaken to develop draft versions of the pathways, which was pilot trialled across 19 clinical settings. The publication of the DCPs was a concise and easily readable document for registered practitioners who required immediate guidance on how to implement evidence-based delirium care for …

There are many excellent publications outlining features of assessment and feedback design in higher education. However, university educators often find these ideas challenging to realise in practice, as much of the literature focuses on institutional change rather than supporting academics. This paper describes the conceptual development of a practical framework designed to stimulate educators' thinking when creating or modifying assessments. We explain the concepts that underpin this practical support, including the notions of 'assessment decisions' and 'assessment design phases', as informed by relevant literature and empirical data. We also present the outcome of this work. The Assessment Design Decisions Framework. …
