Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Particular N, S co-doped graphene/Fe3O4 hybrids have been successfully synthesized by the combination of a simple hydrothermal process and a subsequent carbonization heat treatment. The nanostructures exhibit a unique composite architecture, with uniformly dispersed Fe3O4 nanoparticles and N, S co-doped graphene encapsulant. The particular porous characteristics with many meso/micro holes/pores, the highly conductive N, S co-doped graphene, as well as the encapsulating N, S co-doped graphene with the high-level nitrogen and sulfur doping, lead to excellent electrochemical performance of the electrode. The N-S-G/Fe3O4 composite electrode exhibits a high initial reversible capacity …

Biomethane Potential Evaluation Of Co-Digestion Of Sewage Sludge And Organic Wastes, Richard Wickham, Brendan Galway, Heriberto A. Bustamante, Long D. Nghiem Jan 2016

Biomethane Potential Evaluation Of Co-Digestion Of Sewage Sludge And Organic Wastes, Richard Wickham, Brendan Galway, Heriberto A. Bustamante, Long D. Nghiem

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Co-digestion of organic rich wastes and wastewater sludge to enhance biogas production has become an attractive economic possibility for water utilities. The suitability of the organic rich waste depends on its ability to produce biogas as well as its influence on the overall anaerobic digestion process. Biomethane potential evaluation was conducted to screen seven organic wastes and dehydrated algae. All co-substrates increased the bio-methane yield by three to six times compared with conventional anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge. Maximum co-digestion ratios were identifiable for most solid co-substrates including algae (6% wt/wt), undiluted food waste (5% wt/wt), bakery waste (5% wt/wt), …

Expansion Of Co-Compact Convex Spacelike Hypersurfaces In Minkowski Space By Their Curvature, Ben H. Andrews, Xuzhong Chen, Hanlong Fang, James A. Mccoy Jan 2015

Expansion Of Co-Compact Convex Spacelike Hypersurfaces In Minkowski Space By Their Curvature, Ben H. Andrews, Xuzhong Chen, Hanlong Fang, James A. Mccoy

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

We consider the expansion of co-compact convex hypersurfaces in Minkowski space by functions of their curvature, and prove under quite general conditions that solutions are asymptotic to the self-similar expanding hyperboloid. In particular this implies a convergence result for a class of special solution of the cross-curvature ow of negatively curved Riemannian metrics on three-manifolds.

Co-Digestion Of Sewage Sludge And Crude Glycerol For On-Demand Biogas Production, Long Nghiem, Thanh Nguyen, Patric Manassa, Shona K. Fitzgerald, Marcia Dawson, Sarah Vierboom Jan 2014

Co-Digestion Of Sewage Sludge And Crude Glycerol For On-Demand Biogas Production, Long Nghiem, Thanh Nguyen, Patric Manassa, Shona K. Fitzgerald, Marcia Dawson, Sarah Vierboom

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Pilot scale experiments, biomethane potential (BMP) evaluation, and BioWin simulations were conducted to evaluate the intermittent co-digestion of sewage sludge and crude glycerol for on-demand biogas production. BMP tests revealed that both pure and crude glycerols were readily biodegradable. BioWin simulations showed that intermittent glycerol injection at a high (3% v/v) dose might lead to an increase in chemical oxygen demand of the digestate. Results from the pilot scale experiments confirmed that intermittent injection of crude glycerol at both low (0.63% v/v) and high (3%v/v) doses could be used for on-demand biogas production to match the daily fluctuation in energy …

Joint Analysis Of Beef Growth And Carcass Quality Traits Through Calculation Of Co-Variance Components And Correlations., H R. Mirzaei, Arunas P. Verbyla, W. S. Pitchford Jan 2011

Joint Analysis Of Beef Growth And Carcass Quality Traits Through Calculation Of Co-Variance Components And Correlations., H R. Mirzaei, Arunas P. Verbyla, W. S. Pitchford

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A joint growth-carcass model using random regression was used to estimate the (co)variance components of beef cattle body weights and carcass quality traits and correlations between them. During a four-year period (1994-1997) of the Australian "southern crossbreeding project", mature Hereford cows (N = 581) were mated to 97 sires of Jersey, Wagyu, Angus, Hereford, South Devon, Limousin, and Belgian Blue breeds, resulting in 1141 calves. Data included 13 (for steers) and 8 (for heifers) body weight measurements approximately every 50 days from birth until slaughter and four carcass quality traits: hot standard carcass weight, rump fat depth, rib eye muscle …

Thermal, Dielectrical And Mechanical Response Of A And B-Poly(Vinilydene Fluoride)/Co-Mgo Nanocomposites, A J. Paleo, Carlos Martínez-Boubeta, Lluis Balcells, Carlos M. Costa, Vitor Sencadas, Senentxu Lanceros-Méndez

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Nanocomposites of the self-forming core-shell Co-MgO nanoparticles, which were of approximately 100 nm in diameter, and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) polymer have been prepared. When the polymer is crystallized in the a-phase, the introduction of the nanoparticles leads to nucleation of the g-phase of PVDF, increasing also the melting temperature of the polymer. With the introduction of the Co-MgO particles, the dielectric constant of the material slightly increases and the storage modulus decreases with respect to the values obtained for the pure polymer.

Value Co-Creation With Customers Through Design Toolkits: The Importance Of Preference Fit And Psychological Ownership, Tingru Cui, Hua Ye, Hock Hai Teo Jan 2011

Value Co-Creation With Customers Through Design Toolkits: The Importance Of Preference Fit And Psychological Ownership, Tingru Cui, Hua Ye, Hock Hai Teo

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

The information technologies increasingly enable companies to set up websites for customers to design and purchase their own individualized products. Although customer co-design offer benefits for both suppliers and customers, how to manage the co-design process, especially the central interface features of design toolkit have emerged as a contentious issue among researchers and practitioners. This paper focuses on the effects of both utilitarian and psychological customer-design product value (i.e., perceived preference fit and psychological ownership) on customers' purchase decision. Based on the self-determination theory, we propose that the effectiveness of the value increment mechanisms is influenced by three leading toolkit …
