This neighborhood indicators report assesses employment, economic and welfare changes in ZIP code 53210 based on eleven years of institutional data. The 2002 income tax data (based on state tax returns filed by April 2003) provides income earnings data that is three years more current than the 1999 incomes reported by the U.S. Census. Funding for the report was provided by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and the City of Milwaukee Community Development Block Grant Program. This report was prepared for employers, public policymakers, and educators to identify demographic trends that will affect the availability of labor for Milwaukee area companies in the next decade. Labor force changes are examined for the four-county Milwaukee metro area, utilizing detailed 2000 U.S. Census data and changes in hiring patterns (including occupational status by gender and race/ethnicity) based on reports filed by public and private employers with the U.S. Equal Opportunities Employment Commission.

The Employment and Training Institute conducted an analysis of the nursing and teaching work force in Wisconsin using data obtained from the Department of Regulation and Licensing for registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses(LPNs) and from the Department of Public Instruction for licensed public school teachers. U.S. Census data were used to examine growth in numbers of college educated adults in Wisconsin. The analysis focuses primarily on professionals residing in the Milwaukee metro area, including Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties.
