InterLibrary Loan Support for the Yucca Mountain Project (YMP) Technical Information Center. This project was initiated to support the Technical Information Center (TIC) efforts to acquire cited-reference documentation (journal articles, technical reports, book chapters, symposia and other monographs, reference materials, etc.). It also supported selective acquisition by UNLV Libraries of titles that would benefit the YMP, UCCSN/UNLV, and the general public’s research needs in the area of underground nuclear waste disposal and nuclear waste transportation.

The Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies (HRC) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) has analyzed approximately 200 groundwater samples for over 60 trace elements and major solutes over the past ten years. These samples represent groundwaters from the Nevada Test Site, Amargosa Valley, the Spring Mountains, Death Valley, Ash Meadows, Pahranagat Valley, and Oasis Valley. The preparation of a data base containing all of these data is near completion and will be submitted to DOE upon its completion. Data verification is in progress. In Part I of this report, we describe the work completed during the last fiscal year (October 1, 2002 thru September 30, 2003). The single biggest challenge this past year has been to develop and deliver a new software technology to classify Homeland Security Sensitive documents with high precision. Not only was a satisfactory system developed, an operational version was delivered to CACI in April 2003. The delivered system is called the Homeland Security Classifier (HSC).

Travel writer and humorist Bryson has revised, adapted, and updated his style guide, first published in 1984 in Britain as Penguin Dictionary of Troublesome Words and in the US as Facts on File Dictionary of Troublesome Words, to appeal to contemporary American book buyers. Presenting itself as a "compilation of suggestions, observations, and treasured prejudices," the work compiles and comments on commonly misspelled words and proper nouns and other conundrums of usage scrupulous writers or copy editors may face.

Reference services at Oregon State University's Valley Library have undergone several reorganizations in response to institutional changes, shifting service needs and patron demands. Part of this history includes training for and functioning in team-based management. We have now evolved to a management model that utilizes workgroups and an advisory and coordinating council to assist in running the department. We find this model provides flexibility, sharing of the workload and professional development opportunities, all of which are essential in today's tumultuous reference environment. We will describe the functioning, potential hazards and multiple advantages of this model.
