Objective: Developing appropriate concussion prevention and management paradigms in middle school (MS) settings requires understanding parents’ general levels of concussion-related knowledge and attitudes. This study examined factors associated with concussion-symptom knowledge and care-seeking attitudes among parents of MS children (aged ∼10–15 years).

Methods: A panel of 1224 randomly selected US residents, aged ≥ 18 years and identifying as parents of MS children, completed an online questionnaire capturing parental and child characteristics. The parents’ concussion-symptom knowledge was measured using 25 questions, with possible answers being “yes”, “maybe”, and “no”. Correct answers earned 2 points, “maybe” answers earned …

High profile sporting events in the United States have been identified by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as potential terrorist targets (Lipton, 2005). However, there has been an identified lack of training and education for key personnel responsible for sport security operations (Cunningham, 2007). Recognizing the demand and need for a specialized area in sport event security management, the University of Southern Mississippi School of Human Performance and Recreation developed an emphasis area in sports event security management as part of the Master of Science in Sport Management program. The sport security emphasis area includes three graduate level courses …

Satellite Ocean Color Assessment Of Air-Sea Fluxes Of Co2 In A River-Dominated Coastal Margin, Steven E. Lohrenz, Wei-Jun Cai Jan 2006

Quantification of the contributions of river-influenced margins to regional CO2 fluxes is difficult due to the high degree of spatial and temporal variability in these regions. We describe an algorithm for assessment of surface water partial pressure of CO2 (pCO(2)) from MODIS imagery in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Principal component analysis and multiple regression were used to relate surface pCO(2) to environmental variables (T, S, chlorophyll). Subsequent retrieval of corresponding products from MODIS-Aqua L1B data permitted the assessment of regional distributions of pCO(2). An area of low pCO(2) was evident in the vicinity of the Mississippi River delta, consistent …
