In the Fall semester of 2016, I was part of an advocacy project from the School of Social Work. Together, my class and I provided donations to families affected by the 2016 Louisiana flooding in Baton Rouge, working in tandem with their Young Women’s Christian Association Early Head Start program.

I personally implemented Google Drive into the project, publicly sharing a document from Baton Rouge’s YWCA by use of a Quick Response (QR) code and a short link.

The term minimalism has assumed a multi-faceted definition and been used to describe everything from an aesthetic, to religious simplicity, to a personal cleanse from overindulgence. Operationally defined, minimalism is a societal movement in response to the excessive consumerist mindset adopted by many Americans. Anti-consumerism does not circumscribe the the “American Dream” as a commodity; however, it redefines a meaningful life as one full of experience and human connection. This research confirmed that the arousal levels of the stimuli led to an effect on participants’ stigma scores. Future research should aim to sample a more demographically diverse population from multiple locations or institutions. Future research may also benefit by examining how religious affiliation and experience with mental illness affects stigma scores.

Men and women have different attitudes about sexism (Phys.org Staff, 2015). Men are more likely than women to be indifferent about sexist situations.

However, most studies have not examined attitudes that college students have about sexist situations, jokes, and advertisements.

Therefore the aim of the current study is to examine gender differences and perceptions of sexism/sexual objectification in college students.
