Few studies have examined services for children with autism who are culturally and/or linguistically diverse (CLD), or parent perceptions of the appropriateness of those services. The purpose of this research was to gain a broader understanding of the values and perspectives of Somali parents of children with autism. One Somali parent of a child with autism was interviewed with the aid of a cultural mediator using survey style open-ended interview questions. The responses to the questions were transcribed and compared to extant research. How to handle juvenile offenders has been an issue that goes back and forth from rehabilitation to holding juveniles accountable with incarceration. Recidivism or re-offending rates have been studied to get a better picture into how effective treatment interventions are. This pilot study seeks to determine if juveniles incarcerated in Elmore Academy, a private correctional residential treatment facility, for shorter lengths of time (1-3 months) recidivated at higher rates than their peers who were incarcerated longer (4-9 months). According to the United States Census Bureau (2008), by the year 2030, nearly one in five United States residents are expected to be age 65 or older. The astronomical growth of the senior population will affect many aspects of society, challenging senior volunteer programs and many other service providers to meet the needs of aging individuals. In an attempt to alleviate poverty and empower poor people, many NGOs and government agencies have been providing credit and social services to rural women in the Kasoa district of Ghana. The goal of these credit schemes is to help the rural poor, especially women earn a living through their on-going income generating activities.
This study found that micro-credit programs are very helpful in empowering rural women to enhance their economic activities to meet the needs of their families as well as afford them the opportunity to contribute in household decisions.
