This was a mixed methods study that used both random and non-random purposive snowball convenience sampling. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether clinicians issue more severe psychotic DSM diagnoses (schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders) to Black female clients than to White female clients when implicitly primed with cultural archetypes unique to Black women. Cinematic Sessions : The Ethics Of Therapy In Hollywood Film, Meredith Kendra Flouton-Barnes

This qualitative study was undertaken to examine how the therapeutic process is depicted in modern films produced for American audiences over the past two decades, with special reference to how the conventions of ethics in therapy are treated, and to discuss the implications of these findings for clinical practice. A sample of 50 films that featured at least one scene of individual therapy was identified and surveyed using a coding scheme developed for this project. This study was conducted to ascertain the kinds of messages that African Americans are being exposed to that introduce them to the existence and reality of skin color bias within the African American community. This included identifying the time frame, source, and nature of those exposures as well as exploring the efforts African Americans have made to try to protect younger generations of African Americans from the impact of skin color bias within the African American community. This exploratory study was undertaken to examine women's experiences working in residential treatment facilities for adolescent males, and to better understand the existing gender dynamics in this particular setting. The research questions guiding this study were: How do gender stereotypes affect women's experiences working in residential treatment with adolescent males? How do women feel that they are perceived by co-workers and residents? Thirteen women participated in this qualitative study. Six women performed clinical roles, three were direct care staff, three were case managers, and one was a teacher.
