SMU moved from an in-house research publications solution to a commercial solution with integrated workflows for research management. The Library is the module lead for the Publications Module. The new Integrated Research Information System (IRIS) went live with the Publication Module as the first module in July 2015. The presentation covers the features of the new IRIS, the challenges of going live with the module, the benefits of the new IRIS. Implementing A Bento-Style Search In Libguides V2, Aaron Tay, Yikang Feng

The National University of Singapore Libraries converted their LibGuides v2 instance into a research portal and incorporated a “bento box” search interface—that is, an interface where results from multiple systems or categories are compartmentalized by system or category, like a Japanese “bento”-style lunch box—on a trial basis. Our experience shows that building and maintaining a bento box search in LibGuides requires fewer resources than a fully homegrown solution would require. The number of postgraduate students has grown from 615 students in 2010 to 1,260 students in January 2015. The growing population of postgraduates, especially those with research requirements, has posed both opportunities and challenges to library’s resources, facilities and services.

Library is committed to provide resources and services that support research. From weeks 11 to 14, the [Li Ka Shing] Library sees a surge in the percentage of hogged seats to up to 31% of its capacity, which diverts manpower from its main operations to deal with both the problem and complaints from users that ensure. The team looked for a solution to decrease the percentage of hogged seats by creating a seat-hog free zone for users.

Serials Renewal Cycle: Doing It The Smu (A Different U) Way!, Kai Leong Heng

Academic libraries typically renew their serials subscriptions (Individual print and/or online titles) annually by comparing prices, availability and service terms proposed by different subscription agents. In Singapore (and possibly other countries in the region), we have only up to 3 (active and competing) subscription agents to choose from. At Singapore Management University (SMU), the library maintains about 500 serials titles. The “legacy” practice had been to split the order between the two of larger agents and designate a staff each to take charge of related operational matters.
