There are so many possibilities for what is right around the corner with technology. A number of the technologies that we take for granted now were originally called fads by many, so the begs the question "What is right around the corner and why should I care?"

Collecting, storing, discovering, and locating are integral parts of the composition of the library. To fully utilize the library and achieve its ultimate value, the construction and production of discovery has always been a central part of the library’s practice and identity. That is the reason why the new-generation (also called the next-generation discovery) discovery gets such striking effect since it came into library automation arena. However, when we talk about the new-generation of discovery in the library domain, we should see it in the entirety of the library as one of its organic parts and consider its progress along …

It also looks at how the library measures the success of its scholarly communication services, including demonstrable outcomes of these services.
It includes position descriptions for library leaders of scholarly communication efforts, charges for SC committees, …

A Critical Examination Of The Relationship Between The Use Of Gatekeepers, Trust, And Organisation Knowledge-Sharing, Deogratias Harorimana Dr
Dr Deogratias Harorimana
This thesis critically examines the relationship between gatekeepers, trust, and an organisation’s knowledge sharing. The research applied mixed methods with the case study approach. In this research the concept ‘gatekeeper’ is widely used to represent a class of those who are part of a knowledge management strategy; they collect information and knowledge and contextualise this before they can share it with the rest of the members of the organisation’s knowledge networks - within the formal and informal organisation. In this study, it was found that there was a strong relationship between the openness of a given firm, as regards its …

Deadly Powers: Animal Predators And The Mythic Imagination By Paul A. Trout, Lizzy A. Walker
Deadly Powers: Animal Predators And The Mythic Imagination By Paul A. Trout, Lizzy A. Walker
Lizzy A. Walker
Paul Trout's book on animal predators and myth is well researched and presented in such a way that it is informative and entertaining. He illustrates his assertions with numerous examples of myths from ancient cultures. The content is also meant to make the reader "uncomfortable" with the idea that humans did not start out at the top of the food chain. When applicable, Trout likens myths to some modern tales of terror where humanity must face its fear of the predator in various forms, such as in modern horror and science fiction films.

Dr Deogratias Harorimana
This paper presents results from a multi-disciplinary conceptual analysis of development theory and practice. It reviews issues raised and proposes a shift in the epistemology of possession towards an epistemology of practice which is guided by the following aspects (1) The consideration of the learning culture of parties involved, (2) the ability and willingness for decontextualisation of the knowledge by the source and (3) the ability to embedded it by recipients (embededness ), (4) the importance that is attached to knowledge of the host country as reflected through (5) Similarity in culture, values, understanding of context and knowledge bases; (6) …

Digital artefacts generated through use of social media tools= have potential long-term value to individuals, organizations and societies. If there is a desire to systematically collect and preserve accounts of daily life, government activities, and societies’ documentary heritage, archival approaches must account for changing information systems—the tools, policies, and practices through which we engage in the contemporary information ecosystem. Through this paper we argue that in light of the growing complexity of digital information practices, particularly in relation to the use of social media, archivists need look to the scholarship of design and planning, in particular the work of human …

The Choice Is Yours! Researchers Assign Subject Metadata To Their Own Materials In Insitutional Repositories, Maira Bundza
Maira Bundza
The Digital Commons platform for institutional repositories provides a three-tiered taxonomy of academic disciplines for each item submitted to the repository. Since faculty and departmental administrators across campuses are encouraged to submit materials to the institutional repository themselves, they must also assign disciplines or subject categories for their own work. The expandable drop-down menu of about 1,000 categories is easy to use, and facilitates the growth of the institutional repository and access to the materials through the Internet.

Proximity And Matthew Effect In Co-Authorship Pattern Of Iranian Top Universities, Mahmood Khosrowjerdi, Neda Zeraatkar, Marzieh Hajipoor
Mahmood Khosrowjerdi
Co-authorship is used to measure scholarly collaborations of countries, institutions, and individuals. It refers to the process in which two or more authors or researchers collaborate with each other to create a joint-work through collaboration methods and channels. Although many studies have been conducted to analyze the individual or field co-authorships in Iran, a little have concerned the organisational co-authorships in this country. This study aims to analyze organisational coauthorships among Iranian top universities based on proximity rule and Matthew effect. Metatheoretical Snowmen: A Pedagogical Gedankenexperiment In Information Metatheory, Jenna Hartel
Metatheoretical Snowmen: A Pedagogical Gedankenexperiment In Information Metatheory, Jenna Hartel
Jenna Hartel
Metatheory is the highest level conceptual device used in social scientific research and determines a way of thinking and speaking about reality and its information phenomena. Today, numerous metatheories exist in information science and create a dynamic climate. There is also widespread confusion about metatheory because it is a relatively new, abstract and elusive concept for students, practitioners and scholars alike. The article introduces metatheory in information science and its ontological, methodological, social and personal implications. Then "Metatheoretical Snowmen," a novel pedagogical strategy, is described. Metatheoretical Snowmen demystifies information metatheory through a gedankenexperiment, that is, a thought experiment. In Metatheoretical …

Preserving And Promoting Institutional Heritage: A Descriptive Study Of The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Members’ Archives, Eli Arnold
Eli Arnold
Academic institutions, even small colleges and universities, acknowledge the importance of archives in order to preserve and promote their institutional heritage. For the past half-century, an increasing number of institutions are establishing and supporting archives. Two over-arching questions soon arise: first, how is an academic institution, especially one with limited funding and staffing, to achieve success with their archives? Second, what can be learned through the shared experience of institutions that currently support academic archives? The author evaluated the websites of the archives of the twelve colleges that are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). In addition, the …
