Initiation is a religious practice that is generally understood as involving socialization and acceptance into a religious community, but American Neopaganism, with its emphasis on individualism and autonomy, has evolved a meaning that challenges that simple understanding. American Neopagan communities are marketplaces of ideas that are comprised of groups and solo practitioners, all in interaction in which they might conduct main holidays together, but not necessarily work together in what they would consider more “serious” practices in which they receive the spirit communications with which they develop the ideas. The current research uncovers problems with a religious organisation's Intellectual Capital
(IC), and the approaches organisational leaders take to overcome these problems. It is situated as an issue
of complexity, in which there are varying levels in both problem and approach. This is outlined according
to David Snowden's Cyne¯n model. It is suggested that complex IC problems require complex IC
approaches, while simple problems can make use of simple approaches. Two case studies with churches in
the American South were used. Focus groups with these churches identi¯ed IC assets of strategic importance,

Amidst growing literature regarding the importance of spirituality within
counseling and counselor education, little is known of the experiences of
doctoral students regarding their religious and spiritual backgrounds while
matriculating through their doctoral program. This research explored the
experiences of four researcher-participant counselor education doctoral
students from diverse religious and spiritual backgrounds. This exploration
deepened their understanding of the role their religious and spiritual identities
played in their thoughts, emotions, challenges, and strengths of their
experiences. A phenomenological autoethnography method was used for this
