Broadening Access To Geospatial Capabilities, Carol Song

Purdue GIS Day

Responding to the need for geospatial tool and data capabilities in HUBzero from various communities, a Purdue team is developing and integrating geospatial capabilities into the HUBzero software. Funded by the National Science Foundation’s Data Infrastructure Building Blocks (DIBBs) initiative, the follow-on program to the DataNet program, the GABBs project is a four-year software development effort aiming at enabling researchers, students and citizens to share geospatial data and tools online without requiring significant amounts of software expertise or IT administrative privileges. The new geospatial functions are being integrated into the HUBzero framework such as RAPPTURE Toolkit for rapid tool development, …

The Purdue University Research Repository (Purr): An Institutional Data Management Service With A Virtual Research Environment, Data Publication, And Archiving, Courtney Earl Matthews, Michael Witt

Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations

The Purdue University Research Repository (PURR, http://purr.purdue.edu) uses HUBzero to provide a free, online research data collaboration platform and data management service platform for the Purdue researcher community. Funding agencies like The National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, have begun requiring that researchers describe in their grant proposals how they will manage and share the data that will be produced in their research. The White House’s Office for Science and Technology Policy has also directed federally funded research agencies with research budgets over 100 million dollars to ensure that funding recipients make their research output free and accessible …

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

Purpose - This case study will discuss the creation of robust preservation functionality within PURR. The study will discuss the customization of the HUBzero platform, composition of digital preservation policies, and the creation of a novel, machine-actionable metadata model for PURR’s unique digital content. Additionally, the study will trace the implementation of the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) model and track PURR’s progress towards Trustworthy Digital Repository certification.

Design/methodology/approach - This case study discusses the use of the Center for Research Libraries Trusted Repository Audit Checklist (TRAC) certification process and ISO 16363 as a rubric to build an OAIS institutional …
