International Approaches To Research Data Services In Libraries, Michael Witt, Wolfram Horstmann

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

Libraries and archives around the world are acquiring new skills and applying the principles of library and archival sciences to solve challenges and provide new services related to research data management. Librarians are helping researchers address needs throughout the research data lifecycle, for example, by conducting assessments and outreach, consulting on data management plans and metadata, incorporating data into information literacy instruction and collection management, providing reference services to help patrons find and cite data, and providing data publication and preservation solutions. They are creating web guides and tutorials, training colleagues within and outside of the library, contributing to discussions …

Applying Archival Science To Digital Curation: Advocacy For The Archivist’S Role In Implementing And Managing Trusted Digital Repositories, Sammie L. Morris

Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations

Archivists have led digital preservation efforts for as long as there have been digital records, as a natural extension of archival responsibilities to collect, preserve, and provide ongoing access to unique information of enduring value. Databib: An Online Bibliography Of Research Data Repositories, Michael Witt

Libraries Faculty and Staff Presentations

With support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the libraries of Purdue and Pennsylvania State University have collaborated to create Databib: an online, annotated bibliography of research data repositories. A number of academic and research libraries are taking an active role in data curation, applying library science principles to help address the data deluge. Librarians are helping researchers formulate funder-required data plans, adapting library practice to help organize and describe research datasets, developing data collections and data repositories, performing digital preservation, and teaching data literacy. Librarians are in a good position to provide these services; unfortunately, there is …
