Sociology Between the Gaps: Forgotten and Neglected Topics
Building age-friendly communities is a global as well as a national concern. The purpose of this paper is to explore fundamental tensions underlying the formulation of age-friendly goals and their implementation, based on a review of age-friendly projects and reflections on the journey towards age friendliness in one state (Rhode Island). The authors conducted a comprehensive investigation of the relevant literature on previous age-friendly initiatives, which included case studies of individual projects, meta-analyses of age-friendly work, and educational toolkits for promoting age-friendly community. Sociology Between the Gaps: Forgotten and Neglected Topics
Does art imitate life? Is that an important explanation for why certain television shows have developed a following, even years after the show moved from prime time to syndication? Beside their entertainment value, what else do we find in the episodes? This paper offers a sociological analysis of a shared housing arrangement as modeled in the popular sitcom, The Golden Girls. The author addresses the question of what it takes sociologically to build a successful, liveable community on the micro level of a single household comprised of four older very different women who decide to share a house by …

Counterculture: The Generational Gap And Reaction To The 1950s, Michelle Desjardins
American Studies Forum
This work focuses on the causes of the 1960s counterculture in relation to the conservative 1950s. The piece provides a wide survey of what the counterculture truly entailed- through music, movies, and social movements- and the wide range of this movement from teenage rebellion to hippie communes. The paper concludes by taking a close look at the ways that counterculture was manifested at Providence College through an examination of two decades of yearbooks, from 1950s-1970s.

Nurses’ Perceptions Of Parents Staying During Chronically Ill Child’S Hospitalization: Learning To Speak The Same Language, Nicole Toscano
Social Work Theses
Since parents and nurses are at the forefront of a hospitalized child’s care, it is crucial to understand the views of parents and nurses to provide the best care for the patient. Parental views have been examined by previous research; thus, this qualitative research study assesses nurses’ perceptions concerning the parental role during a child’s hospitalization. Assessing where nurses’ place parents in the medical world will help the overall care of the patient. The results of the semi-structured interviews of two nurses corresponds with the hypothesis that nurses’ view parents as integral to the care of the patient, even if …
