Desire Paths In The Information Landscape, Victoria Van Hyning, Mason A. Jones, Travis Wagner
Journal of Critical Digital Librarianship
Libraries and archives serve so many different users who come to information institutions with various perspectives, needs, experiences, and desires around accessing physical or digital collections. While our users may find what they are looking for immediately, many have to beat their own paths through complex systems and metadata that doesn’t align with their needs. Their search strategies may leave digital “desire paths”–alternative routes through the information landscape that can show us how to better meet their needs. This article covers three scenarios where users’ desire paths can be seen or where gaps around user experience can be better addressed. …

Based on the block group level 2010 census data from the U.S. Census Bureau and primary health care data from Association of American Medical Colleges, this study focuses on measuring the primary health care accessibility using an extended kernel-density two Step Float Catchment Area method. The study area is the Mississippi State, which is ranked last state for health care. The objectives of this study are to calculate the accessibility and analyze the spatial and non-spatial disadvantages of communities in accessibility of primary health care …
An Analysis Of Public Transit Accessibility Using The Distance Constrained P-Median Problem Approach: Bus Stop Consolidation For The Capital Area Transit System Of East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, Sainath Challuri
LSU Master's Theses
Over the past four decades public transit usage has declined in the United States. Transit Planners have suggested that public transit usage should be encouraged because public transit can account for greater travel demand than cars and would reduce pollution, traffic congestion and energy consumption. Easy access to public transit stops is important because research has found that usage of public transit and access are inversely proportional. U.S. transit systems have a relatively high density of stops resulting in high accessibility levels at the cost of increased travel times. In this study access distance to transit stops and bus stop …
