Archives' Annual Report
The IMSA Archives, housed in the Leto M. Furnas Information Resource Center, serves to collect and preserve materials relating to the history and ethos of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. The Archives includes both special and general collections with materials about IMSA’s establishment, led by Dr. Leon Lederman and Governor James Thompson. There are materials about the Academy's opening in the fall of 1986 and its development since, as well as about its ideas and programs and how they evolved. We have sample curricula, presidential speeches, samples of student work, as well as material about and from partnership programs …

Archives' Annual Report
This year the focus of the Archives has been on further developing several collections and making them available on Digital Commons [DC], work that has been made possible by the expertise and creativity of Jean Bigger and her work on DC. In addition work has continued to strengthen collections in general, to build new collections, and to make the Archives more accessible to administration, students, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as to others in Illinois, USA and the world. To that end the volunteer staff set four sets of goals for the year, which are set out below …

Why is it that computers still cannot do what our brains can? Marvin Minsky has been studying this problem for over 20 years, and he believes it is because computers are shackled by constraints we place on them. He believes, by changing the instructions we give them, computers will be able to have motivations and feelings ... and consciousness! What are these constraints, and how will removing them release the power of computers?
