Participants will be able to identify the link between effective restorative conferences and school discipline. They will learn strategies that are effective for reactive and proactive conferences. Participants will analyze scenarios of actual conferences and prepare a list of things to avoid. Three (3) Learning Objectives:
- To demonstrate how to engage youth (grades 6-12) in the prevention planning process through student leadership councils in the school and community domains. Also, how to engage the community and students to be actively involved in the reduction of substance abuse and other adolescent problem behaviors.
- To demonstrate the connection between three prevention models, Communities That Care (CTC), 40 Developmental Assets, and Positive Community Social Norms. Focus will be placed on how the three prevention frameworks work together to support the Social Development Model of preventing substance abuse.

The Health Rocks! program aims to promote positive knowledge and attitudes towards substance-related risky behaviors among youth. This presentation will highlight findings from a quantitative study assessing the extent to which youths’ program engagement is associated with program outcomes. Implications are valuable to Extension personnel and other youth professionals for the design and implementation of future youth programs.
