A Multivariate Analysis Of The Effects Of Money In Congressional Elections On Incumbents And Challengers, Larry Summary Jan 1982

A Multivariate Analysis Of The Effects Of Money In Congressional Elections On Incumbents And Challengers, Larry Summary

Masters Theses

The use of money in congressional elections will be the principal issue of this thesis. The money decides who will mount a serious contest and who will not. In determining the effect of money in congressional races, it is hypothesized that campaign spending has a much greater effect on the challenger's chances of winning than it does on the incumbent's.

One of the many implications of this thesis is that people and groups determine how well a candidate will do on election day. Such topics as long term trends in the House, congressional competition, voting behavior, conservative and liberal political …

Monetary Factors And The Business Cycles, Nattasin Chongsanguan Jan 1982

Monetary Factors And The Business Cycles, Nattasin Chongsanguan

Masters Theses

The emphasis in the study of economic fluctuations has been placed upon the disequilibrium nature of the growth process with private investment playing such a key role in generating oscillatory behavior. The view taken in this paper, however, is that fluctuations in aggregate economic activity are equilibrium phenomena. Expansionary and contractionary processes are considered as continuous adjustments along an equilibrium path through time.

The Hawtrey-Hicks monetary hypothesis is used in this study to explain irregular fluctuations in economic activity. Monetarist propositions together with rational expectations and dual-decision hypotheses are then drawn from the Hawtrey-Hicks analysis for the testing purposes. Quarterly …

An Analysis Of The Casey School District's School-Community Relations Program, Juanita E. Worden Fribley

Masters Theses

Communication with the public is an essential facet of any school-community relations program. This study examines both external and internal communication methods. Before a school district can have a purposeful school-community relations program, the internal communication of the school personnel needs to be working effectively.

This telephone survey consists of eleven questions concerning an awareness of school news. One hundred people were randomly called and asked to respond to the survey.

An Examination Of The Verbal-Performance Differences And The Bannatyne Pattern Of The Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children-Revised, Susan Hanft Bowyer Jan 1982

An Examination Of The Verbal-Performance Differences And The Bannatyne Pattern Of The Wechsler Intelligence Scale For Children-Revised, Susan Hanft Bowyer

Masters Theses

Many psychologists use the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Revised (WISC-R) in the diagnosis of learning disabilities. They often place the results of the WISC-R into either the Bannatyne pattern or use the difference between the Verbal IQ and Performance IQ to help determine whether the child is learning disabled or non-learning disabled. This paper examined the feasibility of using either of these methods in determining learning disabilities. The case files of 300 children (211 males and 89 females) between the ages of 5 years, 10 months and 17 years, 3 months (X CA = 10.73 years, SD = …

Validation Of The Tactual Performance Test As An Organicity Screening Device, Stephen C. Lippold Jan 1982

Validation Of The Tactual Performance Test As An Organicity Screening Device, Stephen C. Lippold

Masters Theses

Organicity screening devices are those psychometric tests used to detect brain dysfunction during the initial assessment. The characteristics of such tests were listed and ones currently being used were reviewed. The review concentrated on the validity and clinical utility of these organicity tests. From the review it was concluded that the validity has not been thoroughly established, partially because weak criteria have been used. It was also concluded that current screening tests have questionable clinical utility, since an inordinant number of organically impaired people are not detected by the tests. The concept of organicity was discussed, and the Tactual Performance …

The Social Psychology Of Imitated Jaywalking: An Extension Of Model Sex And Social Status, Edward W. Gregory Jr. Jan 1982

The Social Psychology Of Imitated Jaywalking: An Extension Of Model Sex And Social Status, Edward W. Gregory Jr.

Masters Theses

A field experiment is designed and conducted to examine what effects the presence of a model who jaywalks (i.e., crosses a street against a "Don't Walk" light) has on inducing jaywalking by unknowing pedestrians who are on the street corner with the model. Two models are used, one male and one female, and their perceived social status is varied by changing their attire from one day to the next to determine what effects sex and social status of models have on initiating jaywalking in other pedestrians.

The review of related literature discusses the findings of a number of studies which …
