Historically the study of population shows three successive stages: the economical, the biological and the eugenic . Thomas Robert Malthus represents the first, Herbert Spencer, the second, and Sir Francis Galton , the third. In the light of modern sociology, an inquiry into the problem of population is, therefore, a three-fold process; it is concerned with the qualitative changes of population as well as the quantitative changes and the relation between the quantitative changes and the production of food .
