Histomorphometry Of The Human Rib Cortex In Methamphetamine Users, Robert Chancey Karinen

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

Studies have demonstrated lifestyle choices such as poor diet, insufficient exercise and substance abuse can negatively affect bone health. The purpose of this research is to determine if the tissue pathology associated with long term methamphetamine use is a localized response to poor dental hygiene or an indication of a more systemic response that is discernable in the bone microstructure. A comparison of the rib cortical bone microstructure between males that were known to be methamphetamine abusers (N=18) and individuals who did not abuse the drug was undertaken (N=19). Constructing Marriage: A Thematic Analysis Of Self-Help Books On Marriage, Stephanie Mae Jones

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

Questions about what makes a marriage work are treated widely in the popular press. This study seeks to discover how we learn about marriage through self-help books. According to Cameron (2007), these texts can become a part of our construction of everyday life. Therefore this study focuses on how marital self-help books frame the institution, and whether relational dialectics were present in each book. Two books— Laura Schlessinger’s The Proper Care and Feeding of Marriage and John Gottman’s Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work—were selected through an exhaustive process. A thematic analysis was conducted on each text, and topics …

Virtually There: Social Structure Over Time And Space, Wayne Erik Rysavy Jul 2009

Virtually There: Social Structure Over Time And Space, Wayne Erik Rysavy

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

Communication is both process and art. It is the vehicle through which we share our thoughts and feelings as much as it is a creative activity resulting in the production of new meanings and ways of knowing. While we commonly understand communication as a continual process of reception and interpretation, new electronic media continue to extend our knowledge of what constitutes communication and how we characterize communication. Challenging the longstanding assumptions of fixed and positioned ways of knowing, studies with new electronic media accentuate the burgeoning contrast between the authority and stability of the written word and the mutability of …

The Archaeology And Mobility At 10-Cn-05, An Archaeological Site, Middle Snake River, Idaho, Tedd D. Jacobs

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

Excavations during 2007 and 2008 at site 10-CN-05, an archaeological site located on the Middle Snake River, five miles south of Melba, Idaho, uncovered material culture remains dating to the Late Archaic (2,500, years ago). An analysis of the archaeological remains, consisting of artifacts, lithic debris, and faunal remains, has provided insights into activities that occurred along the Western Snake River corridor. These activities include maintenance of lithic tools and procurement of medium and small sized mammals. The archaeology of 10-CN-05 suggests a pattern of sparsely populated, highly mobile hunter-gatherers making infrequent use of the area with relatively few repeat …
