This pre-conference will cover the basics of planning, editing and publishing a video tutorial or tour. The presenters will cover the basics of creating a high quality product. We will discuss and demonstrate audio recording. Attendees will be given video samples to practice hands on editing with iMovie software. At the end of the workshop, students should be comfortable with the process and motivated to plan and produce their own videos.

: A working group of ASERL librarians designed a survey to assess resource sharing issues and identify best practices. The results will assist ASERL in identifying programming and project areas to support resource sharing. The survey will also produce ILL and resource sharing benchmarks useful for future planning and assessment. The survey inquires into fundamental resource sharing outputs, networks, and technologies. To measure current best practices, the survey also incorporates Rethinking Resource Sharing "STARS" A Checklist Interlibrary Loan Assessment, devised by ALA/RUSA/STARS.

This is a interlibrary loan shipping and courier needs assessment survey of the Tenn-Share Library Consortium. The results will assist Tenn-Share in exploring shipping options for libraries across Tennessee. Participants will be asked to answer questions related to their institutions’ interlibrary services and resource sharing operations. The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. Librarians face many challenges when dealing with issues of privacy within the mediated space of social networking sites. Conceptually, social networking sites differ from libraries on privacy as a value. Research about Generation Y students, the primary clientele of undergraduate libraries, can inform librarians’ relationship to this important emerging technology. Five recommendations assist librarians in expanding their traditional commitment to privacy into the realm of social networking sites.

From the SEMLA report of the conference: Alan Wallace of the University of Tennessee gave a presentation on "The Amazing J. Lawrence Cook of Tennessee" that encouraged attendees to broaden their thoughts on the nature of artistic creation and recorded music. J. Lawrence Cook was a composer and arranger who throughout the course of his life created between 15,000 to 20,000 piano rolls for player pianos. Wallace discussed how the piano roll was the most common medium for recording and replaying music in an era before the widespread use of the phonograph and argued that the jazz music Cook cut …

In June 2009 the UT Libraries conducted focus groups with graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty. The purpose of the focus groups was to help guide implementation of the Primo search and delivery platform and associated redesign of the Libraries' website. The objectives of the focus groups were to gather information to help the design team determine: what information should be most prominent on the website homepage, what other design elements should be incorporated into the homepage design, and what resources do users want to search from the main search box and how should those resources be labeled?

This presentation offers a simple illustration of the ways html code, metadata tagging and other strategies enable content discovery. It contains examples that can be understood by anyone familiar with a bibliographic record. Librarians who grasp these concepts will be well-prepared to convince faculty that the library is both a safe and sustainable archive for their work, and that placing content with the library is more likely to lead to its discovery than any personal web space.
