Marine Science Journal Prices : A Case Study, Judith B. Barnett

Approximately 350 English-language journals in the interdisciplinary field of marine science are published. Two groups, one of fity titles, and one of fourteen are analyzed for price increases between 1997 and 2003. Within the larger context of escalating journal prices in all scientific fields, the marine science journals have increased in price approximately 71% during this period, while general science titles have increased 34%.

According to the instrumental theory of technology, mobile technologies - what McLuhan's refers to as electronic prostheses - promise opportunities for greater freedom, creativity, leisure, and productivity by enhancing organic bodily functions. Correspondingly, as (Cavallaro, 2000) would argue, objects such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), portable physiotherapy units, laptops, and portable stereos - to name just a few - seem to impart a sense of solidity to consumers' lives. Just like prostheses, they are inserted into our everyday lives, helping our "inadequate" bodies along in fulfilling practical tasks. History Of Lotteries And The Lottery System In Rhode Island, John Russell Bartlett

John Russell Bartlett (1805-1886) was Rhode Island’s Secretary of State from 1855 to 1872. During his tenure as secretary of state he wrote and published a number of books and articles on the history of the state.

This document contains five newspaper articles that were published in the Manufacturers and Farmers Journal between October and December 1856. These articles were the first attempt to relate the history of Rhode Island’s lotteries and came only in the decade following the last lottery held in the state up to that time.

This document also includes an introduction by Russell J. DeSimone.

In April 2003 the University Library of the University of Rhode Island presented an exhibition entitled Rhode Island Lotteries – Three Centuries of History. The exhibition was a comprehensive look at the role of lotteries in Rhode Island as well as a study of the evolution of the role of lotteries over a period spanning three hundred years.
