'Play The Book Again': Towards A Systems Approach To Game Adaptation, Johnathan Sanders

Situated at the interstices of game studies, adaptation scholarship, and literary theory, this dissertation puts forth a theoretical framework for effectively analyzing literary game adaptations (that is, playable digital or analog systems that are based upon a work or works of literature) as expressive intertextual systems which facilitate aesthetic experiences. Parasocial Relationships Among Film Consumers: Can Film Celebrities Influence Purchase Intentions?, Melissa Ann Tucker

This thesis explored how film celebrities and the parasocial relationships they form with their fan bases influences the purchase intentions of consumers. Specifically, this research looked at parasocial relationships’ influence on box office revenue and streaming service subscriptions. This thesis also explored social media and how film celebrities’ usage influences parasocial relationships with audiences. The results of this study found that parasocial relationships had a significant influence on the survey participants’ purchase intentions. The goal was to help marketing and public relations professionals understand how parasocial relationships can benefit celebrity clients they may acquire or film studios they may represent.

This thesis examines the signification of the mammy stereotype in the 21st century. The performances of Martin Lawrence, Tyler Perry and Eddie Murphy’s as mammies in drag are the selected texts for the project. By presenting the many mammy representations over the past 150 years, I outline the ways in which the mammy stereotype dehumanizes black women and hinders the Pan African agenda. Through the commodification of the mammy stereotype it has been de-historicized and thus separated from its beginnings as a part of the white supremacist imagination. Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936) wrote numerous film-treatments inspired by his short-stories and plays that were not completed as films. Among the never completed films there is La Nuova Colonia. The history of the film-project La Nuova Colonia [The New Colony] is important for the further understanding of Pirandello’s poetics. Nestled in the plot of Pirandello’s novel Suo marito [Her Husband], La Nuova Colonia took on independent life in 1926 as the play of the same name that premiered in Rome in March 1928.
