In Fall 2014, Steen Library Administration developed a renovation project to repurpose an area for students to use, particularly graduate students. The northwest quadrant of the third floor in the library cleared for the project with materials deselected or shifted. Librarians estimated that about 105,000 volumes (15% of the stacks collection) could be deselected. Deselection is a routine task performed by libraries to create a more relevant and accessible collection for the users they serve. Library faculty use various criteria for each discipline and carefully consider each item.

In the Fall semester of 2016, I was part of an advocacy project from the School of Social Work. Together, my class and I provided donations to families affected by the 2016 Louisiana flooding in Baton Rouge, working in tandem with their Young Women’s Christian Association Early Head Start program.

I personally implemented Google Drive into the project, publicly sharing a document from Baton Rouge’s YWCA by use of a Quick Response (QR) code and a short link.

The term minimalism has assumed a multi-faceted definition and been used to describe everything from an aesthetic, to religious simplicity, to a personal cleanse from overindulgence. Operationally defined, minimalism is a societal movement in response to the excessive consumerist mindset adopted by many Americans. This research confirmed that the arousal levels of the stimuli led to an effect on participants’ stigma scores. Future research should aim to sample a more demographically diverse population from multiple locations or institutions. Future research may also benefit by examining how religious affiliation and experience with mental illness affects stigma scores.

Men and women have different attitudes about sexism (Phys.org Staff, 2015). Men are more likely than women to be indifferent about sexist situations.

However, most studies have not examined attitudes that college students have about sexist situations, jokes, and advertisements.

Students apply the Body of Knowledge in a capstone assignment in a Foundations course in Human Sciences. In the Making an Impact assignment students are charged to research a social issue in their discipline, apply strengths they learned in self-assessment instruments, and advocate to improve the issue. An example is the project showcasing educator support of the Backpack Buddy program to impact childhood hunger in the classroom which connects Body of Knowledge concepts of basic needs, wellness, family strengths, community vitality, sustainability, and capacity building.
