The article describes the effort to preserve the artifacts of a unique organization: video recordings of the President’s Peace Commission symposia held at St. Mary's University. Since cultural and educational institutions preserve their history with varying degrees of success, libraries can provide an important link to preservation. In addition to describing the reasons and process for coordinating with the St. Mary’s Learning Resources Center for videotaping of panel sessions, the original cataloging of these videotapes and incorporation into the Louis J. Citation Analysis As An Unobtrusive Method For Journal Collection Evaluation Using Psychology Student Research Bibliographies, Margaret Sylvia

Bibliographic citation analysis of student research papers is one method of evaluation the use of a journal collection. Journal selection and cancellation may be done on the basis of use and cost-effectiveness to maximize the usefulness of materials purchased with the library budget. An analysis of the bibliographic citations of research papers by undergraduate and graduate students in the psychology department of St. Mary's University was used as one basis for psychology journal selection and deselection in the academic library. Remote access to the library is possible without a magic wand. we have seen increased use of the library in recent years, either because of, or despite, the possibility of remote access. One reason may be that some full-text material is still only available inside the library. Remote access was first implemented in the St. Mary's University Academic Library in 1991, shortly after the installation of the first network in the library. Various options for remote access are compared and contrasted, including the EA/2 solution.

The first section discusses how to do research in the library, including choosing a topic, beginning with books, updating the information with journals, checking out books, interlibrary loan, visiting other libraries, and writing the paper. The second section provides sources of general information on psychology. The third section provides an annotated bibliography of additional research resources. The increasing price of journal subscriptions and the increasing number of journals available make it difficult for libraries to supply all needed material locally for scholarly research. Bibliographic citation analysis of student research papers is one method of evaluating the use of a journal collection.
