Conflict in the workplace is not a new phenomenon and much research has been dedicated to understanding the causes and consequences of it. Gender plays a significant role in workplace conflict and as it relates to gender equality in the workplace, there have been significant advances in training and education; however, gender discrimination persists. This dissertation deals with differences of gender in management and shows that gender bias continues to exist not only in the workplace but specifically, at the managerial level. An Exploration Of The Lived Experience Of Human Resources Professionals In The Hospitality Industry: A Qualitative Research Study, Nadia R. Lucien

Employee abuse and discrimination appear rampant in many workplaces, as indicated by the annual Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reports from 2014 and 2015. This study was designed to explore employment discrimination practices specifically within the hospitality industry. The researcher used conversational dialogue to capture the experiences of human resources (HR) professionals who may have observed employee discrimination in the hospitality industry. Using semi-structured interviews with the participants in the study, the researcher obtained rich descriptions of their lived world with respect to employee discrimination. This research was designed to develop an understanding of today's multigenerational workforce with respect to a preferred styles or characteristics of followership and leadership. Specifically this research sought to determine if there was a relationship between an individual's generational cohort and the preferred styles of leadership and followership, as measured by implicit theories of leadership and followership. Therefore, this study draws upon generational theory (Mannheim, 1952), implicit theories of leadership (Epitropaki & Martin, 2004) and implicit theories of followership (Sy, 2010). Gagnon's (2011) text is the most recent contribution to the growing corpus of knowledge on case study research. As a whole, the text contains all of the typical parts one would expect in an introductory text on case study research. The text begins with a brief discussion of paradigms and epistemologies and then gives way to issues of reliability and validity.
