While the impact of employee substance abuse on the workplace is well documented, research studies concerning the experience of recovered alcoholics in the workplace are scarce. Recovered alcoholics who must negotiate a sober identity in the workplace where alcohol may be part of the social culture may feel disconnected from coworkers or may experience anxiety trying to conceal their alcoholism.
