Link resolvers, including Ex Libris’ SFX, use OpenURL to provide library patrons with context-sensitive links, such as the ability to move quickly from a citation in an abstracting and indexing database to the full text. In SFX, information for determining the appropriate links is maintained in the knowledge base, which contains details about a library’s electronic holdings and other information about electronic information resources. This article describes SFX functionality, what the service looks like from a patron’s point of view, and how it can be of particular assistance to a serials librarian.

The Anchor: 2004
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

A 21st Century Look At An Ancient Concept: Understanding Frbr, Anita Coleman
A 21st Century Look At An Ancient Concept: Understanding Frbr, Anita Coleman
Faculty Publications
This is a presentation of the library's most enduring artifact: the bibliographic record. The focus is on understanding the theory behind IFLA's Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR). Illustrations, practical implementations, and research initiatives are also summarized. A deeper understanding of the importance of "works" and the legacy that it brings along are the goal of this entertaining and informative look into our past, present and future.

Chat’S Positive Side, Carol Tenopir
Chat’S Positive Side, Carol Tenopir
School of Information Sciences -- Faculty Publications and Other Works
"I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO REGRETS about enhancing our reference services through chat." "It's been a smooth and successful expansion of our existing reference service." "It's so successful we've moved from being a pilot project to an ongoing service." These are the positive voices of virtual reference, the librarians who feel chat reference is now an integral part of their library. After giving time in my column last month to negative views ("Rethinking Virtual Reference," LJ 11/1/04, p. 34), this month I've asked librarians in notable virtual reference services to tell their stories.
