Translating Information From Scholarly Sources To Community [Notes], Melinda S. Burchard Ph.D., Sarah Myers, Liz Kielley
Faculty Educator Scholarship
Librarians and faculty collaborated in teaching and a study to improve how future teachers found, judged and communicated about evidence-based teaching practices. Students wrote literature reviews about evidence-based practices, then translating information for parent audiences. Students demonstrated gains in information literacy and interactions between knowledge and demonstrated skills.

Murray Learning Resources Center was named in honor of the college’s architect, William Lynch Murray and his wife Geraldine. The library expansion project was completed at Messiah College, now Messiah University, in 1977.

They will view data from a study that used critique and engagement with children’s books as one way support growth in cultural responsiveness for pre-service teachers. Words matter. To make materials findable, libraries have relied on subject headings and classification numbers to organize their resources. Have you ever wondered how these subjects or classification numbers were developed? Both the Dewey Decimal Classification and Library of Congress Classification were developed with a Western-centric, white, Christian, male perspective. How does the language we use in our subject headings reinforce marginalization? In what ways can libraries reconcile the inequalities found in these standardized policies to be inclusive of diverse and multicultural perspectives?
