Chiapa de Corzo Mound 3 was excavated by Tim Tucker under the direction of the New World Archaeological Foundation in July 1965. Mound 3 is located in the ritual center of Chiapa de Corzo, the southwest quadrant. Significant Preclassic and Protoclassic architecture, burials, and caches were discovered there but were never fully analyzed or published. A complete analysis of this mound is necessary to better understand the role of Chiapa de Corzo as a whole and as a regional power. The results of an archaeological survey of North Cottonwood Canyon, San Juan County, southeastern Utah, are herein reported.
The purpose and background leading up to the survey are followed by a physical description of the canyon and a description of the 36 archaeological sites recorded. The cultural material collected and/or observed at the sites, including architecture, ceramics, and other miscellaneous artifacts, is described and discussed. This is followed by a distributional analysis between sites. This includes altitude, slope, water resources, and vegetation. The results of archaeological excavation and laboratory analysis of artifacts from the Chauncey G. Webb House Site, Nauvoo, Illinois, are herein reported. The purpose of the report and the history of archaeological investigations at the site are explained. Next is given a brief history of the city of Nauvoo, Chauncey G. Webb and the site using historical records and the pre-Mormon, Mormon, and post-Mormon periods are discussed. This is followed by a description of the site before excavation. This thesis is a field report on the archaeological sites surveyed by the author in Goshen Valley, Utah County, Utah. The survey has the threefold objectives of: (1) surveying and recording of sites in Goshen Valley; (2) providing information on the material culture of the ancient inhabitants of the valley; and (3) discovering whether there was a dividing line during the Fremont occupation between the Provo and Sevier regions as outlined by Jones (1961), Green (1964), and Ambler (1966).
