African Naked Mole-Rat Colony Behavior Based On Whole Colony Radio Frequency Identification (Colony Tt-2, April 2015), Dan Mccloskey, Michael E. Kress Feb 2020

African Naked Mole-Rat Colony Behavior Based On Whole Colony Radio Frequency Identification (Colony Tt-2, April 2015), Dan Mccloskey, Michael E. Kress

Publications and Research

This file contains Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) data for routine activity of members of the TT-2 colony during a 26 day period in April 2015. The data are organized into a state matrix where the last known location for each of the 49 animals in the colony is listed in each row. A new row means that the raw data file updated the location of one animal. The leftmost column gives the date and time of the event, the headers for the other 49 columns give the RFID code for each of the animals in the colony. Animals demonstrated to …

News Literacy, Sissel W. Mccarthy Jan 2018

News Literacy, Sissel W. Mccarthy

Open Educational Resources

"The digital age has created the need for a new kind of literacy-a literacy that empowers news consumers to determine whether information is credible, reliable and truthful. This is not just a skill; it is a new core competency for the 21st century. So-called “fake news” is hard to spot and spreads easily, leading to disagreements over basic facts. The antidote to the growing challenges posed by this digital revolution is news literacy. This mini news literacy course includes two three-hour sessions that will teach anyone to become a more critical consumer of news. "

The News Literacy course package …

Simulating And Animating The Spatial Dynamics Of Interacting Species Living On A Torus, Boyan Kostadinov Aug 2015

Simulating And Animating The Spatial Dynamics Of Interacting Species Living On A Torus, Boyan Kostadinov

Publications and Research

The goal of this talk is to present a student research project in computational population biology, which aims at creating a computer simulation and animation of the spatial dynamics of interactions between two kinds of species living on a torus-shaped universe. The habitat for spatial interactions is modeled by a 2D lattice with periodic boundary conditions, which wrap the rectangular grid into a torus. The spatial interactions between the species have two components: 1. Population dynamics modeled by the classical Nicholson-Bailey two-parameter family of models for coupled interactions between species, extended to incorporate space and 2. Two-parameter migration dynamics, modeled …

Topic Modeling In The Queens College Civil Rights Collections, Thomas J. Cleary Jan 2014

Topic Modeling In The Queens College Civil Rights Collections, Thomas J. Cleary

Publications and Research

In 2014 a topic model was conducted on the materials found on the Queens College Special Collections Civil Rights website (archvies.qc.cuny.edu/civilrights). The titles, subjects, descriptions, full text (when available), coverage were all put into "Item" level text files and then run through MALLET (topic modeling program) to create 30 different topics. These computer generated topics and connected items were then labeled into meaningful terms and uploaded into Gephi. The Gephi results were then edited to a web that showed the thematic groupings of each.

The final results and display can be viewed here: http://archives.qc.cuny.edu/network/
