Involvement of parents and family, school personnel, and community members is important because studies from early childhood, elementary, middle, and high schools have shown that students are more successful when their families are actively involved (Gonzalez-Dehass, Willems, & Holbein, 2005, p. 100). One challenge facing K-12 public schools is the development and implementation of systematic and sustainable communication that encourages parents and family members to engage with their students' schools. Mastering the art of skillful communication with families is a key skill in any effective school leader's arsenal. When school leaders foster school and family connections that increase collective engagement in students’ academic lives, students benefit. "Indeed, family-school relations and parental involvement in education have been identified as a way to close demographic gaps in achievement and maximize students’ potential" (Hill & Tyson, 2009, p. 740). And "the better the engagement between parents, families, and schools, the greater the positive impact on student learning" (Mutch & Collins, 2012, p. 168).

The purpose of this study was to explore the outcomes of a monthly e-bulletin used to communicate with grandparents. Data was collected through interviews with The Wingman Project members, direct observations at the school, and artifact examination. Three major findings will be summarized in the poster presentation of this study.
