It will review credible health websites and discuss evaluation criteria for medical information. As Graduate Services Coordinator at RIT, the presenter was asked to provide instruction on academic integrity to new graduate students for two consecutive Fall Semester Orientations. This presentation will compare and contrast academic integrity orientation activities delivered in the Fall 2018 Semester with those delivered in the Fall 2019 Semester. In the latter term, the RIT Office of Graduate Education placed a greater emphasis on academic integrity content and less emphasis on information about library resources and services, as compared with the former term, in their orientation program for new graduate students. In 2017 the Library carried out an audit of Library signage. In line with graphic design best practice, institute guidelines, the Official Languages Act 2003, branding and design guidelines were developed. This poster will attempt to apply the techniques used in Queer Theory to explore library and information science’s use and misuse of library classification systems; and to examine how “queering” these philosophical categories can not only improve libraries, but also help change social constructs.

For millennia, philosophers, such as Plato and Aristotle, have used and expounded upon categories and systems of classification. Their purpose is to make research and the retrieval of information easier. Unfortunately, the rules used to categorize and catalog make information retrieval more challenging for some, due to social constructs such as heteronormality.

Librarians from Utah State University explain recent efforts to encourage subject librarians to take a more holistic view of their roles. We are shifting from a traditional emphasis primarily on collection development and refocusing on natural connections between collections, instruction, liaison, and reference service.
