Copyright Clearance Center's "Get it Now" service gives libraries the ability to provide immediate fulfillment of full-text articles from unsubscribed journals from over a dozen publishers. Eastern Kentucky University Libraries implemented "Get it Now" as a mediated ILL service starting in July of 2011. In this session, presenters discussed lessons learned during the implementation of the service, gave an overview of the fulfillment workflow, and outlined its successes and limitations.

This presentation deals with the Design Workshop Archive and Digital Collection, a collaborative project of Utah State University Libraries, the University's Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning Dept. and Design Workshop, a landscape architectural firm based in Denver, Colorado. The story of this project is told from the above three perspectives. Issues discussed include evolution of protocols to assist firm principals in determining which projects and materials should be archived, strategies for handling diverse formats (obsolete through born digital), and innovative ways to broaden discovery, access and use of these design materials through digital collections and learning objects.

With flat or declining budgets and rising prices, most libraries need to find new ways to provide access to the significant amount of content that our users need. Following a user-centered philosophy, Eastern Kentucky University Libraries have implemented several new approaches for acquiring print and electronic resources. Initiatives have included: Patron-driven eBook collections - both broad and subject-specific; article-level purchasing using Copyright Clearance Center’s Get it Now service; and ILL initiated collection development for print resources. Current metadata schemas are largely analog technology grafted onto the digital format. They have three inherent limitations that need to be transcended: they generate a static product which must be changed manually, they revolve around the needs of human, rather than mechanistic agents, and they are limited by the imagination and organizational capabilities of human agency. The author argues that to meet future challenges metadata will have to take a more flexible, adaptive form that centers on the needs of the machine in searching, interpretation and organization until the information it proxies enters into the human sphere. Mobile technology has exploded, with many libraries experiencing a surge in access to their resources through mobile devices. In response, many institutions have created or are creating mobile sites designed to accommodate themselves to the unique strictures of these devices. One hurdle faced by these organizations, however, is getting mobile users to those sites. One solution is mobile redirect scripts, which automatically redirect mobile users from a regular page to a mobile page. Tapping Into Student Feedback: Instant Surveying With A Tablet, Jennifer Jones, Bryan Sinclair

Ongoing assessment in academic libraries, particularly the measurement of student perceptions, preferences, and satisfaction, can be a challenge to schedule and execute. To address this challenge, Georgia State University Library piloted the use of tablet computers (iPads) loaded with survey software to poll subjects quickly in the library buildings. The result was a practical, hands-on model that maximized convenience for both subjects and researchers and that other campus administrative and academic units can easily adopt. Presenters will discuss methodology, the benefits of using tablets for formative assessment, recommendations, lessons learned, and ideas for future projects.
