The OPN has been a digitization and hosting program between the NPS and Clemson University since 2010. Our next goal is to unite NPS collections from other institutions to create a vast network of National Parks material under one cloud. Florida International University will be our first partner institution.

A Digital Celebration Of The National Park Service Centennial, Joshua Morgan, Rachel Wittmann

After six years of digitization, metadata, and web-development, the Open Parks Network repository is online to celebrate the National Park Service Centennial. We have campfire stories to share on lessons learned from a rocky trail, which will help other institutions steer clear of hidden obstacles and persevere through tough projects.

The Open Parks Network serves the global parks community by providing the information, tools, and solutions to support the stewardship of the natural and cultural assets of protected areas. To date, over 350,000 items and 1.5 million pages of material has been digitized as part of this project. This presentation details the project's background and strategies used for digitization and metadata creation. Additionally, the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Donor Card Collection project is detailed. This webinar presentation was conducted as part of the LYRASIS "Second Friday" series.
