The purpose of this study is to assess the level of park support visitors have towards Yellowstone National Park. Because of budgetary cuts for public lands in the U.S., new methods and techniques are being explored to support management goals. Methods consisted of an online survey sent to four visitor groups: Yellowstone Association members, Yellowstone Park Foundation contributors and Facebook friends, Xanterra Parks and Resorts email listings, and the ITRR Panel. Results indicate a moderate level of support among all users, with joint members of the Yellowstone Association and Yellowstone Park Foundation showing the strongest support. Geotraveler Tendencies In Montana's Shoulder And Winter Seasons , Christine Oschell

After two initial studies on geotourism in Montana (Boley, 2009; Boyle, 2012) confirmed the presence of geotravelers in the third quarter of both the Crown of the Continent region and throughout the state of Montana, research interest turned to visitors during the remainder of the quarters, or seasons. This study looked statewide at all visitors and, more narrowly, vacationers, in the “shoulder” and winter season (quarters 1, 2, 4) to determine their geotourist tendencies.

This report examines the uses of the Greater Yellowstone MapGuide (both the printed and website versions) and how this tool has influenced those who use it. The Greater Yellowstone MapGuide appears to be a tool that is influencing visitors to the area in many ways. The MapGuide appears to influence where they stay, where they drive, and the activities in which they participate. The findings of this study suggest that the Geotourism concept, as portrayed by the MapGuide, is a successful tool in visitor management.

The handbook includes a basic background on geotourism, why it is beneficial to local residents and businesses, and what geotravelers are looking for when visiting the state. The handbook provides links to organizations and businesses who provide assistance and suggestions to the business owner on how to become a geotraveler business. Employees and business owners will be able to grasp the concept and take steps to become part of the comprehensive geo-management and marketing strategy which has been facilitated by the Montana Office of Tourism.

Statewide Vacationers To Montana: Are They Geotravelers? , Dylan Boyle, Norma P. Nickerson

Nonresident vacationers in Montana were surveyed concerning their geotraveler behaviors as well as what was important to them while traveling in Montana. The study found that vacationers do exhibit geotraveler tendencies and can be divided into strong and moderate geotravelers. Strong geotravelers represent 34 percent of vacationers, and they were the youngest, most educated, and most affluent group.

Geotourism is a new niche segment of sustainable tourism focused on sustaining and enhancing the geographical character of a place. The purpose of this study was to answer the question: "to what degree do visitors in the 'Crown of the Continent' share the values of geotourism?" Visitors to sites on National Geographic's Crown of the Continent geotourism mapguide were intercepted and asked to fill out a survey regarding their travel values.
